Caravanning with a Fabia Estate

Featured Replies

I'm looking into the possibility of getting a smallish 2 berth caravan to be towed by my 1.9tdi estate. From the official documentation I understand that the max tow weight is 1000kg so that seems fine for the size of van I'm looking at. However I'm a bit concerned abouth the 50kg limit for noseweight. Anyone here got experiance of towing a caravan and if so is this limit a major problem? Ohh and if not any suggestions on models to consider?

Hi Vikinguk

You dont say what year your car is, or what caravan, but I don't think a Fabia is the best towcar, But as far as the 1000Kgs limit has got to be maximum including all your gear in the caravan, so poss about 800Kgs van would be a better choice.

The best way to check is :What TowCar.com - All about Towcars and Towing Caravans

but to answer the 50Kg noseweight limit, that's just a matter of moving your equipment forward/backword to adjust the noseweight.

Hope that helps

A Compass echo is a good small 2 berth van.(second hand)50 kg noseweight is a little low but if you buy a pair of weighing scales and get a piece of wood and wedge under towball you should be able to tell the noseweight and load accordingly. For more info look at the Caravan club website for more info.

Well after talking to a few caravan dealers over the weekend seems if I go for a light weight van like the model suggested above should be fine. Now all I have to decide is which towbar to go for.
