Headlamp Adjuster- MoT failure

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently had my 1.3 Felicia (1998) fail its MoT as the Headlamp Adjuster was found to not be working. As a matter of fact it hasn't worked for at least 2 years as the fluid had leaked away.

The Garage in question asked ninety odd quid for a new unit and then wanted another hundred for fitting.

"(Not a job for the average owner, Sir)."

I got over it by using another garage, no problems here. I can get hold of another unit but I don't know if the Adjuster is worth the trouble of fitting - its not a difficult job to do, about a couple of hours I reckon.

I see there are two types, listed as 'HLA2 Felicia RB'

and 'HLA3 Felicia Non-RB'

Can anyone enlighten me as to the difference.

Thanks,

Alan.

It shouldn't be an MOT fail. The adjusters on our Felicia didn't work for years and it passed its MOT's OK. Sounds like the garage was after some repair work.

Only a fail if the beam image is out of the required tolerance ie too high/low too far to the left/right or any combination........We as testers are now allowed to adjust the aim if its possible.

Perhaps yours could not be adjusted hence the fail....Price does seem a bit steep though.. and im sure there are other ways of adjusting them:rolleyes:

It is covered elsewhere how to adjust them. The probem is the level adjuster is hydraulic and its a sealed system so the whole lot has to be replaced. If you remove the adjuster you can unwind the phillips screw on the end and this will allow some adjustment if they are to low/high.
