gear selection problem?

Featured Replies

hi there got an 07 plate fabia vrs, bit of a problem earlier, i was going down a street earlier today with parked cars on each side i pulled in to let a car by then went to reselect 1st again, it felt real stiff going in, as i was trying to select 1st with my foot depressed on the clutch it felt as if the car was trying to move forward. turned the engine off and tried it again was still doing it, drove it home, went out again earlier and it feels fine now.

any suggestions?

cheers -tim-

Low mileage gearbox with maybe cold oil? Mine used to be stiff (no comments please) new but now its a pleasure to flick.

See how it goes with more mileage on it.

clutch drag will cause this problem , i'm sure you had the pedal fully depressed , so there maybe a fault on either the clutch hydraulics i.e. slave or master cylinders , or the clutch plate itself

as the problem seems to have gone now , either hope it doesn't reappear , but if it does , run it down to the dealers for them to test

ok thanks its going in to the dealer tomorrow so ill see what they come back with

took it to the dealers today and the diagnosis report is that the clutch is dragging so they are having the car back next week to get the gearbox out and have a look!

Out of interest, how many miles have you done?

we have the same problem on Fiestas , difficult 1st/reverse selection , take the box out , can't see any obvious fault on the clutch cover or plate , but renewing it fixes the problem
