Engine cover - looking for a quick fix :)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm in Holland at the moment, and I refitted the engine sound proofing that goes under the engine cover. Unfortunately it seems the brackets fitted to this engine are not the same as the original ones, so there are no two proper fitting points at the front of the engine to keep the cover on & down.

This means it works itself loose & rattles around, which is a *bad* thing.

Now I seem to remember someone bolted the cover down instead, but I cant find the thread back?

Alternatively, is there a way to tie down the cover at the front of the engine to prevent it coming off/out?

Yes I can take the cover etc off but I need a more suitable solution really :)

ask for your brackets from your old engine ?

Bit impractical since I'm in Holland right now, and APS is in Brackley, which is in the UK ;) - that is the long term solution however :)

Try cable ties, bungee cord or a bra, (preferably size D or above)......

...and while you are at it, change the motif on it from "1.9 TDI" to "Fully loaded".

best not to tie it down with anything. fire risk. buck it in the boot till you get home. then sort it out with proper bracket/bolts or make suitable 1's up.. give you time to clean the engine bay up also.. ;)
