Baker21's Superb......new Rims Arrive!!!

Featured Replies

Well after long deliberation I have decided to keep the Superb for the forthcoming winter at least.......

Service, tax and MOT are all due in September so before I spend some money on maintainence I have bought a new set of rims that I may or may not keep depending on what they look like when on the car.....

I picked up some Black ASA AR1's 18 x 8J all round this morning from Swindon and here they are:

I am sure you are wondering why I have bought a set of 18's when I currently have 19's but I have been messing about with my spacers recently trying to get my front 8.5J wheels to stick out a bit but have had rubbing problems on the arch.

So the plan with these 8J rims is to run 20mm spacers on the rear and 15's on the front and hopefully achieve a stance I will be happy with.

I will also be fitting 205/40/18 tyres when I can find someone that will supply them at a cheap enough price as this will give me a 'stretched tyre' look similar to my current rear 9.5J rims.

The other reason for the 18's is that the Superb should sit lower to the ground which is something else i want to achieve, doubt I will ever have my 17's back on now as they are bolted to the Mrs Avant but the Superb's ride height is much better on the 17's so the 18's should be a compromise.

Black wheels are like marmite IMHO and you either hate them or love them but I thought I would give them a go and if I don't like them then I will sell them on or if I do like them then the 19's will be up for sale....so what do you think? Comments good or bad are always welcome!!

Would like to see them on the car as oppossed to your bed before final judgement, they look OK sofar though

Awaiting photo with them on. Though going by your previous modding judgement they will be top notch! (But then I've got black wheels (since 2003 - an early trend-setter I like to think) so I'd be biased anyhow)

Working on it mate....would rather have had them on the car today but picking them up was a mission with the floods and my usual tyre place had shut by the time I had got home but hopefully then will be on by next weekend.....

What can I say mate......want to be as cool as you.....LOL!!!

Seriously though it's going to be a drastic change that will either look  or :thumbdwn: .....we will see but for the price I paid it's worth having a swap!!

Not a great lover of black wheels Simon, though I wont judge yet until I've seen them on her. I hope you can prove me wrong.

Anyway, remember to PM me or let me know here should you decide to sell your current 19's as I for one would love them.

Paul

Looking forward to seeing some pictures with her new shoes on

I agree - difficult to pass judgement until they are on the car!

Glad to hear you are keeping her!

Hope I can prove you wrong as well mate but it's fair to say that I think these wheels will be a contraversal decision..........will put you on the list for the 19's mate if I decide to let them go.....already had about 3 people ask me about them on various forums.....LOL!!

I will sort it out ASAP mate....I reckon black rims would look good on your motor mate......hint hint (if I don't like them....LOL!!)

I love black rims and look forward to seeing them on the car, plus if you find they achieve the stance your after but your not keen on the colour then you can always have the spokes re painted

I like them. Get them on, then get your name down for Trax. ;)

Hi Baker21, I'll have to reserve judgment until she's wearing them, only had one experience of black wheels, and a mate of mine put some 14's on a 206SW, what can say, it looked 7uckin' $hite! But that's not a fair comparison at all, I'm sure they'll look the dog's, you'd better get some moolah spent and get them on her and some pics up here quick smart.

Will you do me a favour, and add me to your raffle/lucky dip for a shout on your 19's if you decide to stick with the 'blacks'? Ta very mucho!

Glad your keeping her, keep up the good work.

I think he has shares in ASA.......

I do agree that these black wheels could look pants and to be honest that's maybe why I haven't fitted them yet but I have now got the tyres on and I am hoping to put them on the car next week as things are a little busy with work and outside of work at the moment.

Here's another picture of there current status:

With regards to the 19's....you would be surprised the PM's and emails I have had on this forum and others!!!

Fitted Vredensteins to my 18" wheels. They feel very secure and are quiet with low road noise. As a further addition to the string does the 2007 Superb have stiffer suspension as this one has less roll and is more precise when pushed into corners? Any one know the answer to that?:)

I very much doubt it mate unless you have specified a 'sport's' suspension set up?!?!

Hey ! I really want to see your ride with the ASAs on.. I'm considering them for my Octy but on 17s.. With 18s I'd have to use 40 profile, which would be tough on the suspension.. I reckon..

Thanks

is this an old thread,i'm sure i've seen bakers ride with these rims on ages ago:confused:

The tyres I had fitted were 215/35/18 Avon ZZ3's in the end to give a slight stretch, wheels long gone now to a gentleman owning a MK5 Golf.
