Indicator problems - not the relay

Featured Replies

Hey,

so about 1 year ago, I had the classic indicator relay problems.

Lights wouldn't flash any more, just stay on etc.

Bought myself a new relay, and issue solved.

So about 2 weeks ago, started having a different problem with the indicators.

After they've cancelled, there's still the clicking noice for a few seconds.

(albeit a little softer and faster than normal)

It's random, sometimes it's straight after they've cancelled,

others, 10 or 15 seconds after they've cancelled.

From what I can see, the indicators aren't on when the tick-tock noise is on.

Apart from the noise, they seem to work fine.

So, I bought myself another relay and replaced it, but alas, the problem's still there.

What else goes wrong on that circuit?

Am I looking at replacing the stalk, and there-by taking the wheel off?

thanks,

Stephen.

You shouldnt need to take the wheel off to get to the stalk.

Screws are under the rake/reach lever ;)

It will be the stalk and the steerng wheel deffo has to come off.

I agree it will be the stalk, as a temporary measure you could try some switch cleaner sprayed into its' base and work it in by operating the stalk. To replace the stalk means removing the steering wheel which requires that the airbag is removed.

Thanks for the info fellas.

Can anyone re-assure me that spraying WD40 into the column isn't going to set the airbag off?

Will try it this evening.

It's REALLY annoying.....

Can anyone recommend somewhere that'll do this properly without fecking things up in/around Dublin?

Might as well get cruise put on it while it's being done.

thanks,

S.

WD40 has many uses but cleaning electrical contacts isn't one. Try a Google search for 'electrical contact cleaner' and you will see that there are plenty to choose from.

I Have The Same Problem With My Octy.

Have You Solved It And If So What Was Wrong.

The indicator switch will be faulty. I do a few a month for the same problem.
