Hello!

Today I checked my car and I got following error:

18104 - Powertrain Data Bus: Implausible Message from Steering Column Controller

P1696 - 000 - - - Intermittent

Freeze Frame:

RPM: 1386 /min

Torque: 26.8 Nm

Speed: 22.0 km/h

Voltage: 14.14 V

Bin. Bits: 11001100

Bin. Bits: 00000000

What this error mean?

Is maybe some connection between cruise control and this error, because few days ago I tried to turn on cruise control and nothing happend. Then I stopped the car and started it again and then was everithyng OK.

Thank you.

Bye, Borut

Was CC fitted at the factory or have you fitted it and then have enabled it?

CC was original in the car.

I would suggest then that it has one of the batch of defective stalks. Your dealer should fix this under warranty.

I Had The Same Fault Code Along With Fault Code 00895 [ Cruise Control Switch E45 Defective Intermittent]. If You Ask Me, I Think You Need The Cruise Control Stalk Replaced.

Known issue and you are already on the right track, most likely that the stalk is faulty - as Stu already said there was a bunch of improperly designed ones and you dealer should fix it under warranty. ;)

Hello Theresias!

I am registered VCDS user, from hungary.

Verzi

We can work with the Hungarian version but still need a FULL Auto-Scan because this code does relate to more than just the ECU.

Do not have any idea?

Sorry for not replying earlier, been on vacation for a couple of days and then there was of course the other thing people call Christmas... ;)

By going through your scan I found that there is an update for your ECU part number, however I am not sure which version number is current and therefor its questionable if it applies to your case or not. What you could do though is simply try, or at least your dealer could.

Where did you get the stalk you installed? Used or new?

There is another known thing with a software modification in the steering column control module but since your module is rather old it would have to be replaced.
