Unknown lever ???

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have not been able to find any mention of this in the manual or on these forums. When cleaning my car the other day I noticed a push/pull lever below and to the right of the steering column, when pulled out you can see the word ON in white letters, when pushed in you cannot see it - does anyone have an idea what it is for?? ... I have left it "ON" ...

Thanks in advance ...

Marc

It allows air from the ventilation system to enter the drop-down can cooler. Unlike the air going into the glove compartment (which is ALWAYS cold), the air going into the can cooler comes out at the same temperature as the air going into the cabin. Therefore in Winter, be prepared for lukewarm fizzy drinks if you use it!

It's the drinks can "cooler". Setting to ON basically opens a vent which allows the can to be either chilled or heated (the air flowing in is the same temp as that coming into the cabin through the other vents).

Hope that solves the mystery lever - the juice can cooler works well but take heed of this useful warning...!

I once had the heater blowers on full blast highest temperature for a prolonged period and heard a 'bong' type noise from that direction.

The can had heated up so much, the contents expanded and popped the concave bottom of the can right out - - the thing was about to burst so I chucked it out the window for a 'controlled explosion' :D

:jawbig:

Ive yet to put a can in there and try it!

Now you've done it - prepare for a string of terrorist attacks using lukewarm pepsi cans....:P

James Bond ejection seat ?

Whoa! Glad nothing happened.

I am still waiting to hear about someone who opens their tin of soda, takes a drink and then puts the tin back in the holder again... lol

But Cheers

A combined cooler and heater, depending on the temperature of the air coming into the cabin. Rather weedy, but yeah, that's about it!

Like I say, the glove compartment is constantly cooled no matter what temperature air is coming into the cabin, so at least your butties are kept call in any weather! (It's OK for cans too, but they roll about a bit unless you pack them in tight! :D )

James Bond ejection seat ?

Great, apart from the fact that it would eject the DRIVER! Q's gone back to the drawing board with it! ;)

Its too small for beer cans.....

Its too small for beer cans.....

Unless you do a foreigner and get the fizzy drink can-sized ones they sell on the Continent! (For keeping the can cool until you get wherever you're going of course - don't drink and drive kids! ;) )

Pretty sure it was described in the handbook as it's a bit of a selling feature (if a little pointless in the real world! ;))

Chris

Well I never, I find a new bit each month lol

Shame you can't get those 330ml cans of Bud anymore...I can't think of any other Beers sold over here that have been in that size of can since the 80s.

I knew about the lever. I thought it sent temprature controlled air to the glove box. Where is the "can cooler"?

The 'can cooler' being referred to is the drop down drawer by your right knee, under the light switch. You can use it for other things of course!

Oh. I agree the cans would have to be very small to fit in there. I use that little box thing to keep plastic gloves in for use when filling up the tank.

A 330ml can fits OK sideways. And my plastic gloves are in a flat disposal box in the driver's door pocket :D

Chris

 OK, I suppose I asked for that one :D
