Mk1 Octavia Vrs Using oil, and torn breather pipe? linked?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, I'm new on the site so hello to all briskoda owners out there!!

I have had the Vrs for a couple of years now, keeping up the full service history, but i have noticed that it is using oil, i initially checked if i could see any leaks but couldn't see any. I then took the plastic cam cover off and found that what looks like a breather pipe was quit severley split (part no: DE 06A 103 221 AH) and was wondering if this linked to oil use, there are no visible oil leaks round the engine bay, pipes or underside of bonnet.

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience of this? The oil light has come on but i have only ever had to top up the oil ocassionaly in the past?

Any help would be appreciated as i am really conerned about its oil use and the split pipe:(

Thanks

Leon

Welcome to briskoda.

All the 1.8turbo engines use oil it even tells you in the owners book. How much is yours using?

Thanks for that very, strange oil usage though, its only started using oil since its 40000m service before that it didn't use any, now it seems to be quite a lot in the space of a couplt of thousand miles??

much appreciated info though

thanks

it using about 2l in 6-7 k

Well its permissable to use a litre in 600 miles.

What oil did they use at the service?

Was the split breather under the manifold or more visable?

split pipe could be the oil pipe to the turbo which would be bad if the turbo stops getting its oil feed.

not sure what oil was used is it different depending on the service schedule, on a fixed schedule.

Th pipe is a rubber hose in a y shape with clips on. one of the pipe comes right off the cam cover and is clearly visble once you take the plastic engine cover off. On the right side (passenger side) on the cam cover.

The car doesn't seem to be suffering as far as i can tell, no loss of boost or anything?

are you able to take a picture of it and where the pipes go so hopefully someone can see what it is, could be a nice quick fix.

and i think they do use different oil depending on service shedule but i'm not 100% on that one.

I had the same pipe go recently, costs just under

thanks bengie, i will take a pic in the morning, just a sleepless night in store by the sounds of it, dont fancy having to replace the turbo sounds expensive. The part number seems to be right as i've found another link on the web referencing it but not what the actual pipe is, its only about an inch in diameter. Worried that engine has been running on below the minimum oil mark more than the actual split pipe to be honest.

thanks again, i think i need a drink

Hi Jaymd, did you engine light come on when the pipe split? mine didn't infact the only reason i found it was because of the oil use and was having a poke around for leaks and such

Dont panic, the oil feed pipe is metal and ive yet to see one fail. If they do leak you sure as hell know about it very quickly.

Does sound like the crankcase breather pipe to me, could use a bit of oil out of it. Im thinking they use a thinner grade oil at the 40k service and now its just using a bit more than it used to but no where near too much by the sounds of things.

No light didn't come on.

Mine had only split a little, but lost some oil.

I don't know how long mine had split for before i noticed it,as i hadn't been under the bonnet for a while.

Just had to top up with around .25ltr,but i know my engine doesn't use any oil.

I think you should be ok.

cheers for that and how the hell do you get 270 bhp out of mrk2 golf!! not factory then

Ive got nothing other than to welcome vRS dad to the forums, not far from my neck of the woods also. My oil level has stayed static for a couple of thousand miles using 0w40 oil (engine has done 47k)

a split breather could cause increased oil cosumption, there is supposed to be a vacuum inside the engine block which evacuatutes the oil vapours from the crankcase, and with the breather split there is no vacuum which means more oil sticks to the bores are gets subsequently burnt.... dont be too worried over it tho... it aint gonna cause a meltdown.....

and p.s if it was the turbo oil feed pipe gone the engine wouldn't last 10 miniutes before blowing up. the oil would be ****ing out if that were bust

Thanks to everyone so far, I've just got the pipe. Ended up getting it from an Audi dealer who were very helpful, skoda dealer had none in stock and vw were reluctant to sell it to me as the part no had been superceeded so weren't sure if it was the right part. If anyones interested it has been superceeded from: 06A 103 221 AH to 06A 103 221 BH,

Even a petrol turbo will smoke on high throttle, low or no boost.

The minimum oil level is a marker for you to top up with oil. It's not the point at which the engine goes bang. Any level between the min and max markers is within tolerance.

There will be a safety margin below the minimum marker. The only time you should have a problem is if the oil level falls below the pickup (which is normally RIGHT at the bottom) and therefore you start to lose oil pressure. As Ross pointed out earlier, if the turbo oil feed dries up, the turbo doesn't last very long at all. Yours is still running, so it's still fine.

Just put some oil in it, and go and enjoy your holiday :)

Well done for using initiative and finding the split hose for yourself btw.

Mine doesn't! Never put any in between services at 42k.

After my 40k service mine used a bit of longlife so i topped it up and it hasn't needed it since ??????

top notch advice on here, very grateful. Fitted pipe, decided on a mini service, oil, oil filter and air filter, back to splatting flies at dusk with a cheesy grin on my face, all good. Still don't get bmw drivers though.

thanks everyone

:D :D

do you have to close threads on here or just leave them open? if so how?

Just leave it open someone may need it again sometime:thumbup:
