rear wiper

Featured Replies

changed rear wiper blade on mrk1 Octy Vrs estate and new one misses about 2 - 3 inches at the top of the semi circle it makes, thought it must be faulty and changed it again, same thing happens, old one worked fine. Any body any ideas on how to make it work properly please?

cheers

the blade is the right length?

there was a thing about this before where the rear wiper blade was only available from dealers although it seemed to be places like halfords etc only supplied a wiper that suited the octy estate, which should mean your wiper would be fine. check the length against your old one. might be you need to get a new blade from your dealer or replace the rubber on the old wiper.

if the new one is the same length as the old one maybe its not pressing against the window when it sweeps? again swap the rubber from the new wiper onto the old one and your problem will be solved.

Thanks

The first replacement was fitted by a dealer during a service and is the correct length, the second was from a motor factor and is a Champion make (same length), and that works slightly better than the dealer one. The old one was thrown away by the dealer. Its almost as if the blade is not tight enough against the window, wipes fine all the way apart from the top of the semi circle, maybe I will try bending the arm in a bit

cheers

I had the same problem, I bought one from Halfords that was the right length, etc, but kept missing the top like yours.

In the end I bought another one from a Skoda dealer, no problems since then.

Cheers

Is it a properly curved blade (with no pressure on it)? I had to replace mine with a pattern part before I was even aware of curved blades (nice one VAG; a non-standard but standard-looking part), and got this.

neither of the new blades looks curved, are you saying there is a curved blade that the dealer should have fitted?

Thanks again

Yes. As I say I'd neither dealer access nor knowledge of this non-standard part, but when you've lost half the blade edge you need to do something now, not the next time you can get to a dealership!

Many Thanks, did you get the part from a Dealer?

Still using the one that doesn't wipe the full screen. I don't really find that a problem.

I can confirm that you do need a genuine part blade from the dealer as it is curved to fit the window profile - if you look from the side of the car at the rear screen you can see how much curve is in the glass.
