Fabia 1.4MPi... chip anyone ? (or any other suggestions ?)

Featured Replies

Hi all.. (before I start, I know very little about this sorta thing so appologies if I'm wrong with some terms etc.. :( )

Right. The other day, my dad, obviously not wanting to be a bad influence on his young son :P, suggested I look for a new chip for the Fab to give it that ever so slighty better poke.. and I did this, but the search came up with little other than a few Felica Chips from Superchips :(

As I say, the nearest they had for a 'petrol, non-turbo' skoda motor was the felicia 1.3 but I wondered if you wise guys and gals here could help me out a little.

I'm aware it'll only add a few ponies as the one I found suggested it'd add 4bhp to the felicia. But thats quite acceptable I reckon.

If not.. can I pinch the ESC from another VAG motor and use that instead ?? any help's really appreciated :)

Get yourself a new filter and exhaust, it could net the same power and will sound a lot faster.

Failing that unless you want to spend a serious ammont of money put the money away that you save on cheap insurance etc and buy a bigger engined Fabia someday :)

I feared that would be the responce tbh lol :(

I've already got an induction kit on, which is just me being childish and wanting to make some noise (and does just that, and put a big smile on my face).. and will get a new backbox, but the only one I can find is the Jetex laser deeptone jobby which'll set me back 190 quid. Know of any backboxes that will fit other than that mighty expensive one ? :P

Oh, and my insurance is 700 quid on my dads policy

young lad + sh!tty area = Mr. Insurance saying "bend over please Sir"

Well you dont want a remap then that will only increase you premium.

:iagree: - In fact a "full set" of bolt-on mods (filter, full zorst and then true custom remap, not a generic spec one) is likely to cost something like

The other (even cheaper) option - rather than trying to increase power, reduce weight. Strip anything out of the car that you don't need...seats, sound-proofing, trim, replace the spare wheel with a can of tyre foam, etc.

As well as improving acceleration/deceleration, it will mean you're carrying less weight into corners so should allow you to hold speed better. And it should be near enough free to do...

In fact, unless you're desperate to tune a non-turbo petrol engine, or have already reached about the biggest engine you can fit to the chassis, it can be a bit pointless to do conventional tuning these days, because engines are already more efficient ex-works than they were 20 to 30 years back (when I'd have said that a new exhaust and carb rejet could offer 10% with a standard head and cam, and a ported head and new cam the same again for about

cheers for the replies guys, it's appreciated

tbh, I'm a bit peeved 'cos I cant really tune it (while maintaining a reasonable budget sorta thing) but it's not the end of the world.. I'm still glad to have learnt summat. If I can gleam a snippet of info here or there, I'm a happy chap

So, ta very much fella's :D

Hello. I know nothing about cars except that I've owned a few fast ones in my time. No need for one now, so my 1.4 mpi Fabia, I see a bit like a Volvo (i.e. a tank. heavy and pretty safe "cage"). It wouldn't cross my mind in a million years to try to soup this up. If I wanted a faster car, I wouldn't start modifying this one. It is what it is and does what it does IMO and if I'm not happy with that, I'd change it.

Just my thoughts, though in line with others' thinking that money spent might be better as money saved for now, since all mods affect insurance adversely in any case. A higher powered "standard" car might be worth looking into, especially as it removes some of the "get out" clauses from having mods.
