Featured Replies

Just watched a World Touring cars race on the telly and Seat have two tdi and four petrol race cars ....they are trying the the tdi because it is faster on the straight and they have taken the petrol engine as far as it will go ....could be interesting....just watched a tdi out drag the petrol version down the straight

Can't be right.... we've all seen/been pointed to a paticular video clip on here (numerous times) where 2 Octy's in petrol format have out done a Fabia VRS, and been told in no uncertain terms that it is conclusive scientific proof that diesels only feel fast and aren't fast and petrols rule. :D

unless the rules favour diesel power

Boss of Seat racing said they had developed the petrol engine as far as it would go and the 170 tdi could be the way to go, not sure what the rules are though,

Tdi was slightly slower on corners due to the extra weight of the engine but faster in a straight line so the lap times are almost identical

In the BTCC there's a BMW 120D that tends to hang around the back of the grid , but that's run by an independent team with someone who probably isn't the greatest driver.

It would be very interesting to see how a works team with good drivers could perform.

But the petrol had more power than the diesel so this was obvious and it was a bit of a lame video attempting to stir a few puddings....which it did but still not really conclusive to any means. how about 150bhp tdi diesel vs 150bhp petrol now that would be a fair fight, I know whihc would come out on top

The WTCC are always playing around with weight handicaps on the cars to try even things up. Also with winning races your also restricted, so maybe the Diesel car is going in with no weight and looking good :)

The only rule I can find is that the diesel car must weigh 30Kg more than the petrol....

I just hope that for the next race that all things will be equal ...and it's a dry race, with Ivan Muller fourth in the table he's not about to do something silly, but has asked to drive the TDi insted of the petrol

that video was made about teh time you joined so you probably weren't up to speed on the matter, it was nothing to do with petrol Vs Diesel at all. The video was a Fabia vRS Vs a 1.8T octavia as thats what all the threads were about and the power difference wasn't that great really as the 4x4 was runnign around 200bhp and 150Kg heavier than the Fabia which was a claimed 175bhp or so and the other octavia was also about 200bhp and about the the same weight as the Fabia but the Fabia was running 100lbft more than the octavia's. It does annoy me when people see the video a long time after it was made and not knowing why it was done or what the situation was.

have a look here chris ;)

anywya back on topic, whats teh spec like of the Petrol cars? I've tried looking but can't find anything

or, seeing as how it's torque that's all important and that's what the engine actually creates, how about a 150ish lbft diesel vs a 150ish lbft petrol :D

but yeah so long as the series rules are the same for both fuel types, then it's all cool and may the faster car win

It seems to be coming up with an error at the moment but it might have details FIA WTCC under Points - Handicap Weights.

Weights are definitely added due to race finishing positions, and also due to even up the front/rear wheel drive cars.

I think its a credit to modern technology how far diesel engines have progressed in the last few years..

Very true, I watched the whole of race 1 today (I had it recorded....great race)

Bet the diesels are set up to drive like petrol cars though ;)
