Tickover Speed Fabia Estate 1.9 TDi (100BHP)

Featured Replies

This is the first diesel car I have ever owned and I noticed when idling the tick over is about 1000 rpm wonder if this sounded a bit fast or do diesels needa fairly fast tick over anyway compared to petrol

It has taken a few days to get used to the car and most of my running at the moment is in town. Tonight on the way home from work I averaged 49.1 mpg but its only a 5 mile run home with no motorway stretches.

I ask the question because there is some doubt about keeping the original air filter in for 40000 miles the car had done 30950 when I got it on Monday and a choked filter would push up the revs.

I think officially, the standard tickover is something like 905rpm. If it's dead on 1000rpm, it might be a little upset at something, but that's not really a huge difference from the norm. If it's driving OK I wouldn't worry. :)

i agree its sounds not to fr from the norm really. speaking of air filter though i would be inclined to change that anyway

Change the air filter anyway - anything over 30k and it will probably be as black as spades.

Changed ours at 16k - grey all the way through.

Tickover should be around 900rpm, but I found with my tuning box it pushed the idle up to around 1000rpm. Is the car new or used?

Its just coming up to 2 yrs old in September. Its new to me and it was given a 30000 service before I got it but looking at the service book it would appear to be an oil and filter change 40000 seems to be the big service. I am very happy with it.

I just wondered if it had a tuning box fitted if you didn't buy new. Might be worth checking! :D

Have carefully checked again and its running at 900rpm just new to the car but I am getting there.

Hi,I have had my Fabia estate for almost a year and found it great,it's the 1st diesel I have had and after 10,000 miles it's doing 54 mpg.

2 years and some 33K on I'm getting around 54mpg too, and on a recent run from Somerset to Derbyshire got 62mpg for the trip.

6 years and 120K, driving school and lots of motorway! Its a little stormer but thats for other reasons.....
