New rear brake discs for 2yr old vrs??

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum but a friend has recommended it and said that you're very helpful here.

I've had my VRS for 8 months now and love it. The majority of my usage is long motorway miles with clear stretches of road. Thats why I was very surprised at my 2year service @15k miles. I took it to a skoda garage in manchester and was charged

Seems a bit of a low mileage. Perhaps a second opinion would be an idea.

It may well be that they need replacing but to be honest it's not a difficult job and perhaps you could undertake yourself or use an independant.

How much!! How did they break that down on the invoice? 20k is usually

I'm going to take it to my old garage to check it out for me... and they can do it at half the cost thankfully.

Does the cost of the service sound really high as well? I was only expecting to pay around

Cheers ScoobyChris!

I'll post the breakdown from the invoice when I get home... Daylight robbery :-(

It's normally the dealers labour rate that bumps the price up and judging by the brake quote it could be quite high.

I've just had my rear discs and pads replaced at a main dealer, and the price was less than

80k??!! I was planning on writing a letter of complaint anyway but I'm definitely going to do it now. In the past I've always bought cars privately but I bought this one from a skoda dealership because I didn't want any bother....

My dad's vRS has 22k on it. The brakes were making a noise so he took it in for the anti-mooing kit. When checked it seemed the pads were badly worn and glazed while the discs were also in a bad state. It's booked in for both to be replaced soon at around

the problem with the Fabia rear discs is that they do next to nothing when braking , so do tend to glaze the pads and get rust on the surface of the discs

my rear pads and discs are just about to hit 50k , the pads are about 30% worn

Replaced my rear discs after 18 months and 50k.

They were so rusty they lost a lot of their integrity. When I got them off I put a hammer through them and they fell to pieces.

BTW, they cost me

Re that service cost - get a quote for the service, before you take it in! Was this Horners Manchester? My 2nd annual on my first Fabia was

It's worth getting a few quotes on services - normally dealers will try and price match and drop the price by a fair bit. Must admit I haven't tried this with Skoda dealers, but the Peugeot garage near me always overcharges, but will normally price match some of the independant garages.

i can get rear pads for about

Troll - you haven't got ESP (not the standard ASR) fitted as an option on this have you? Just trying to think of reasons for accelerated rear brake wear.

Re the service cost. Had my 20k done at Parkside Skoda in Bolton last month and it cost

Handbrake turns would do it ;)

Well I ended up getting them done from an independent garage for just over half the price. In retrospect I should have asked the garage to check the discs before replacing them but instead I just asked for a quote to replace them.

I also heard back from Skoda UK after my complaints letter that I sent and cc'd the Newcastle garage that I'd bought the car off and Horners in Manchester where I'd got the service done. It was worth sending the letter but nothing is going to be done about it cause I've got the dangerous discs replaced now... oh sorry my fault for not continuing to drive round with a vehicle in that state!!! With regards to the cost of the service... I was told that there are regional variations due to cost of property etc... I tried to explain that it was Bury Road in Manchester but she didn't seemed to understand!!

Needless to say, I've well and truly learnt my lesson and won't be trusting any dealerships from now on and also would steer anyone away from using Horners... but that's just my opinion.

Thanks for all your comments guys.

p.s. I haven't got ESP as far as I'm aware... where would I be able to check?

and cheers Ratt, I'll call in on Bolton next time!

Check switches above radio, it'll either have one labelled ASR or ESP :)
