Anyone know owt about French HDI engines?

Featured Replies

Our other car is a Citroen C8 people carrier with a 2.0 HDI diesel engine.

Its got electric everything and comes out with fault messages. A week or so ago it told us to unblock the particle filter. According to the book it says you need to drive at 40mph for a constant five minutes to do this. This is very difficult on the Isle of Wight but it now says "Diesel additive at minimum level". The book says consult a dealer?

Any ideas? I thought it may be something like a fuel additive, I've done this and no difference, or, is there a reservoir somewhere else??

As I say anyone know before I end up spending money at a dealers

Many thanks

Is the DPF a self-replenishing one or does it need a dealer "service"?

I'm not sure Chris...we've only had it around 4 months or so.

All it says about the filter is that above method is the unblocking method

Found this on PH:

It's the fiuid level in the particulate filter. Quote from Citroen ...

And reading up a bit further, it's a Citroen main dealer only job and hence quite costly. Most people, however, say there's no problem with ignoring it, it will do no damage, and it'll still pass at MOT time....

Yeah C8 with HDI has the liquid to regenerate the DPF.

I had a peugeot with the same (irritating) multiplexed wiring which used to kick up fault messages from time to time. On one occasion I got loads (5 or 6) error messages, one after another. I called the RAC who came out and said that they suffer from static build up which can confuse the control units due to their sensitivity. He disconnected both battery leads and joined them together (the leads, NOT the battery terminals) to create a 'dry short' which gets rid of any residual current in the system. It cleared the faults and I had no more problems for about 8 months when I got an error message, I did the same thing and it was fine after that.

I'm not saying that this is your fault, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for your efforts chaps....I thought it would be something more than obvious, but, if it does no harm I'll have to leave it for a bit

This is what put me buying a focus (EuroIV) with the HDi engine. You don't want to know what a replacement filter at the focus 75K service costs:eek:

Sounds like a good excuse for a "decat" - probably cheaper too ;)
