Another Bulb Change Query! (Granted, not as important as a headlight!)

Featured Replies

Anyone know how to change the front cigar/ashtray bulb? Nah - I don't smoke - I'd just like it to work! :)

You will need to remove a few panels around it first in order to get at it but it's not that hard.

If you open the ashtray then you need to pull the flapped tray towards you. Once you have done this you will see a Torx 25 screw at the back of the tray, remove this.

Then you need to pull up the gear stick surround, it's just clipped down and once you have pulled this up you will then see another 2 x Torx 25 screws that you will need to remove.

Then the ashtray assembly will be loose, pull it towards you and all you will need to then do is unplug the cigarette lighter harness at the back.

You will then be able to get access to the bulb and change it.

Hope this helps.

Brill mate - thank you very much. Managed to get it all out, but I'm struggling to fathom how to remove the bulb holder from the lighter element!

Good questions mate, never had to replace my bulb but had the ashtray out many times using the cigarette lighter's 12v power source for other items.

Sorry can't help anymore........

All I can say is to consider yourself lucky - what a bl@@dy nightmare!

Can't be that difficult surely?!?!?!? LOL!!!

Slightly biased though as I am always messing around with bulbs and how they fit into 'things' at work....

It's quite, quite unbelievable...

The bulb is in a holder that is clipped to the green illumination bezel, but before the holder can be removed from the bezel, there's a protective clip at the back of the holder that needs to carefully prised off. Once that is off, the left-hand clip of holder has to be levered off the bezel with the edge of a very small screwdriver. Once this is done, the holder needs to be gently pushed up, to get the right-hand clip off the bezel. Then the holder needs to be swiveled 90 degrees to allow it to be fully removed.

Now the REALLY hard part to fathom out came along....

The holder forms a complete shroud around the bulb, presumably to stop light escaping - and appears to be one whole piece of plastic; it isn't. But the sides of the holder - the parls that clip to the bezel - can be carefully prised outwards to unlick a first set of retainers and then once you've unclipped a further couple of retainers on the bottom, the top of the unit unfolds from the bottom, exposing the 1.2w pea bulb! Getting it back was a whole lot easier but I just don't understand why this had unit to be designed in such a complicated way - it is engineering overkill! So mate, if there was an award for THE most complicated method of lighting an ashtray, believe me, this'd win, hands down!
