All sorts of problems

Featured Replies

Hello,

Some advice please.

Couple of weeks ago I took my car to the local Skoda garage (that I thought were monkeys before this began) as it have been smoking a lot more than usual. The smoke seems to be black when accelerating and changing gear but at night there seems to be a lot of smoke in people headlights when driving normally. A friend said he had to back off at times to see.

While the EGR valve was on order my emitions light came on and on the July 31 a new EGR valve to be fitted.

After a few hours of driving the emitions light came back on again and it was booked back in with the garage.

After a diagnostic on the Aug 7 they said that changing the air filter would sort everything. So I replaced the air filter and reset my trip, 110 miles has been done since. The emitions light has been on a off since replacing the air filter.

On the motorway doing 70mph on cruise today it dropped into limp mode. On the way there I thought it would just be a one off because of the heat, but it has also done it on the return journey.

My car has a de-cat and had a K&N panel filter. It the PD100 version.

What could I look for as I really need the car for this weekend.

Cheers for all the help

Shaun

Any loss of power?

Should have finished, pressed the return lol....

When the problem first started did you notice any loss of power. Mine was really smokey and run terrible, problem was the rubber pipe from the turbo to the intercooler had a hole in it, new one replaced and its as sweet as a nut now:)

I did seem to be a bit quicker after the new EGR valve was fitted. But today with it dropping in limp mode means I lost the turbo completely.

To my small knowledge on cars smoke can be over fueling on it burning oil. Correct?

I have phone the garage to take it in first thing tomora morning, but they are only open till 12 and if it has been in twice before I cant see they finidng something in 4 hours.

Depends on the colour. Black smoke (soot) is overfuelling or lack of air.

Blue smoke is normally burning oil.

Well I just started it up, revved it and ran to the back of the car. Was a large black cloud lingering.

The filter I put back in was pritty new and it has a PD160 pipe. Could it be the MAF is broken?

When I bought the car it had not had a re-map to my knowledge and when it was on the rolling road last Nov it got stock figures.

Shaun

could be a MAF fault , get them to do a diagnostic check , should have some fault codes in there if its been in limp mode

or as has been said , could also be a split pipe , we get Mondeos diesels at work which as soon as we get them in the workshop we check the intercooler pipe from the EGR , usual place for a split , lack of power and smoke being th symptoms

Sorry to hear you're having problems Shaun. Which garage have you been using?

Its does seem to be making more of a blowing noise now. Can hear it more than the turbo spooling up. The exhaust is defo no blowing though, so does sound very much to be a split pipe. Will mention it to them in the hope it is all sorted out a lil quicker.

Been having to use Horners Manchester since the Bury one closed down Steve.

Does look like once this is sorted though it will be returned to stock with steels and sold. It has racked up many miles since I have got it and the temptation of a new style Transporter is getting larger and larger.

Arrived this morning at 8.30 to be told no Skoda Techs are working today . How I did not hit the roof I do not know.

Shaun

NVM Shaun hopefully they will fix it on Monday. Let's hope it is something simple like one of the rubber hoses. My emitions light never came on though and VAG gave no fault report FYI.

Hope you get it sorted soon then mate

So I'll need to keep an eye out for a pimped up Transporter in future then?! :D

Took the car is last Tuesday and was rang on Monday to collect it. They said the fault codes brought up showed that the MAF had been disconned then asked what I had been doing, dont know why it would bring that up but I havent removed it as I have no need to.

Anway they said they had taken it for a test drive as all was well, pish I could still see large amounts of black smoke coming it so I turned around and went back. For the second time I told them what I thought it was (thanks to the people that replied on here) and after they had a look I was told there was a tear in one of the boost pipes.

So I pick my car up tomora and I hope all is well finally.

Shaun

Victory for Briskoda then, again! :D

Glad it was something fairly straightforward, even if it did take them a while. So, you keeping it for a while now then?
