Front left tyre worn strangely?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anybody else has had this. The tyre looks like its been driven by when the tracking has been out, however as far as I can tell the car seems fine. The outside rim seems to have been word at an angle. Anybody else got this on their vRS? I wonder whether it's been caused by torque steer?

if it's the front nearside tyre (outside edge you said right?), it could just be enthusiatic roundabouts that cause this, however my vRS wore the inside of both front tyres when the control arm bushes died.... was fine when I had them replaced.....

Yeah, its the outside which is worn. Would be surprised if it's been caused by roundabouts I rarely go on any routes that contain any. Will have a word with the dealter tommorrow as it's the same tyre as the one which is having the alloy replaced.

low tyre pressure will cause excessive wear to the outer edge as will poor wheel alignment

even a lesser quality tyre will wear quicker on the edge than say a more expensive brand

Just has to replace 2 fronts after only 7500 miles.

N/S/F tyre was pretty much slick on the outside edge.

For me i think it's a combination of not keeping an eye on tyre pressures and also my 'efficient' driving manner. Especially on roundabouts.

i find raising the pressures say a couple of PSI helps to stop some of the excessive tyre roll that can occur

Yeah, just had the alloy changed. The general outcome was that it was likely to be caused by excessive speed through the corners. I will maybe look at pumping the tyres up a bit as well.

What type of tyres were you using?

Some do wear quicker than others, right?

Think I've still got the original Bridgestones that came with the car

I am a fan of slightly higher tyre pressures.... I tent to use the "fully laden/high speed" reccomended tyre pressures, always a bit higher than "normal" next time you buy tyres, get som XL tyres (extra load) they have a stiffer sidewall than normal, and tend to 'roll' less under cornering....
