sudden and complete loss of boost!

Featured Replies

What a time to happen! I'm just coming round the roundabout, getting on to the motorway slip road and put my foot down and theres loads of wooshing and whistling and i'm suddenly going nowhere! Had a quick check on the hard shoulder but cant see anything. Managed to crawl along to the next junction and work my way back home.

Low down, when pulling off its fine, but it just has no power. It crawls up to about 50-60 and it chucking out loads of smoke.

Got back and plugged myself in and it comes up with:

I've checked in the engine bay and cannot see anything wrong, everything is at it was.

Please can someone help? I'm preying its something simple!

Check all the boost pipes/hoses. Great chance there is a pipe loose/come off. That's the exact behaviour of what happens.

Limp mode, so turbo goes 'off' and loads of smoke.

Like WW says, but in particular trace the hoses each way from the intercooler.

boost pipe behind the off side front wheel, the top connection where it meets the vertical pipe is prone to coming off.

I've spent a hour just looking and prodding and still cant see anything. All the small hoses seem to be ok. The top ducting from the IC seems to be ok, the connections seem no different than before, the only thing of concern is how the pipe itself seems thinner about 1 cm in front of the connection on it, could show the end connection has moved?.

The only thing i cant check is the lower ducting to/from the turbo.

I'm resigned to the fact,i'll have to take it to the garage next week, i can get a lift to work so no problems there.

Quick update,

Again been checking the pipes, the lower one seem to move a bit but you cant pull it out so i think thats fine, all the upper pipes and connections seem fine.

I tried clearing the fault, but its now coming up with an EGR valve fault. How can i check this out, can you clean it? I think i saw a thread somewhere about it....
