I bought my Skoda Octavia Ambiente 1.9 TD from new in December 2002. Since then it has been dealer serviced by authorised Skoda workshops a the intervals specified in the service manual and when required by the engine management system.

At 47,000 miles it had a lubrication service in Spain (as signalled by the engine management system) at an authorised Skoda repairer. At 56,000 it then had a 60,000 mile service in Aldershot. This included a cam belt change and new water pump. However two problems emerged.

The sump problem really must lie with the Spanish dealer if they made a mistake. I doubt they would have used a wrong sump plug as I don't think they are normally replaced, only the washer, but they may well have cross threaded it.

I'm not sure that you thinking that the Cam Belt might cost

IIRC a new sump plug is used every time on the TDI's as opposed to a washer.

Regarding cambelt's on the TDI's a local indy garage using genuine parts quoted
