My car - Fabia 1.4MPi, 2000 X reg, 31000 Miles

Yesterday the car went in for a service and MOT which it passed with no problems.

Drove it home with no apparent problems.

Today drove a round trip of about 12 miles and approx 9 miles in the Coolant Fluid warning light came on. When I got home I checked the level and was shocked to see little more than an inch or so in the expansion tank.

Called the garage I had the service/MOT at and complained, was told to top it up and to keep an eye on it. Ok I thought I'll humor them. So I filled it up.

But it was on my mind for most of the day so I decided to take the car out for another run and again check the level when I got home. However, after approx 6 miles again the warning light came on.

So when I got home this time I again complained to the garage and they have agreed to look at it 1st thing in the morning.

I'm suspecting that they most probably disturbed one of the hoses, when changing the oil filter, but I would like to know what you think, and also it will empower me with additional knowledge to hopefully speed up their diagnosis of the problem.

I should maybe explain that I suffer with back problems so getting under the car etc is a real problem for me, otherwise I'd have been under there until I found where it's leeking from. But I'm suspecting a loose hose as the speed at which it's spewing coolant out it must suerly be a hose.

What do you think guys?

Update:

Turns out the radiator is passing water (almost as fast as you can fill it up) through the bottom drivers side corner.

Fortunately it's covered in my vehicle warranty ... unfortunately the garage has no courtesy cars available this weekend so I'm without a car until Monday afternoon.

I tell you I hate garages, you can guarantee that they'll bugger something up every time. The only reason I went there is because I had a voucher for a free service and mot. I won't be going again next time.

I'll update you when I get the car back.

Update P2:

Got the car back today (just after 12 they called to say it was ready).

Brand new radiator, complete with coolant etc. Should be good for a few years now.

Was shown the bill, but not charged as it was their fault.

That's good news. So was it something they damaged during the MOT/service?

Chris

Id be pretty p*ssed off if a garage put a hole in my rad whilst doing a service! At least you got it sorted without much hassle!

if it was the bottom corner on the passenger side I would think the rad fan switch was leaking.

Yes it was something they buggered up during the service/mot.

I was Pi**ed off...

I've had the rad fan switch leak before, it wasn't that as the water was coming out as quick as you could pour it in.

Well it's sorted now and have had no more issues with it.
