Treasure Hunt Clause

Featured Replies

Scanning my new insurance renewal policy the other day I saw that it excluded all the usual stuff, ie racing, pace making, hiring out my (driving) services etc.

Then I saw that they made a special inclusion for road safety rallies (wtf is a road safety rally?) and treasure hunts!

Is it common place to have an extra clause to be insured to do a treasure hunt in your car?

Anyone else got this?

A tresure hunt is were you follow clues to at different locations to find the "pot of gold".

Been on a few with my parents when i was younger, quite fun.

HTH, was that the answer you were after ?

I know what a treasure hunt is, I was wondering if other people had a clause in their insurance that meant they were insured to do them or not!

Ive had a quick butches at mine, but nothing about treasure hunts.

I've seen this inclusion before, presumably because its a race/competition.

ive done a couple, cluestogo is a qood one, but found we split them into 2 sittings as they do become quite boring for a 9 yr old after a couple of hours.

I've done a couple and run a couple. My insurance does not make any exclusions for them ;)

Can't tell if you mean treasure hunts have been specifically included or excluded??!

It's a bit strange why they've singled them out?! Considering the rules of a treasure hunt, i don't see why they are. You're not actually racing, it's more of a navigation exercise, so you have to adhere to the higway code. And there's usually a maximum overall average speed for the event. If you're faster you get disqualified because they can tell you were breaking the rules!!

The only reason i can think this is mentioned on your insurance is they've disputed a claim in the past. If it was a treasure hunt organised by a Motor Club, they may have tried to wriggle out of paying up by using the "Motorsport" clause, where a treasure hunt is more likely to come under "Social, Domestic and Pleasure".

Which insurer?

Mine only has the usual hire reward, racing etc.

I have never seen an exclusion for a treasure hunt. For a "organised trial of speed or regularity" yes, but a treasure hunt isn't one of those.

Is Anneka Rice the CEO Maybe? ;)

Mine tells me I'm not covered if I have a collision with an aircraft.

same here, something about driving it on an airfield.

The "collision with a/c" clause isn't unusual, but only operates if you're "airside" at a proper airfield or airport. You'd still be covered if someone landed their Cessna on you on a straight.

Mine, on closer inspection, doesnt cover terrorist damage.

Mind you that's normal with 'acts of god' these days inst it?
