Amp power supply wiring.....

Featured Replies

I'm attempting to do an install in my Fabia vRS and i'm trying to suss out the best routing for the power cable. I've decided to take it from the last remaining connection on the small bus bar on top of the battery, and have bought a suitable fuse from skoda to fit (and almost make it look factory fitted).

My problem lies with where to go from there. I can't find where's best to go through the bulkhead and into the cabin of the car and then along to the boot. I'm also unsure of how the trim comes off/apart so i can route the cabling down the passenger side of the car unseen.

Can anyone help???

Cheers :)

Working on the battery side - On the scuttle header near the top of the suspension turrett you should see a black grommet. That is the first place to go through. Lift up the black scuttle cover and look toward the bulkhead you should see another grommet which leads into the car. If you get your cable through that it will come out behind the dashboard and you can see it with the gloebox removed.

Hey Stu :)

Have been poking around under the bonnet and noticed that grommet. Have looked at trying to remove the scuttle cover too. Haven't yet though cos i didn't wanna force any clips and break them. I'll have the glove box out tomorrow and have a look for the other grommet.

Any more tips on trim removal down the passenger side of the car. I don't wanna just grab hold of it and start pulling cos i know i'll end up breaking something!!!

Cheers mate :)

I don't think you'll see the grommet from inside but when you feed a wire through from outside it will appear from up ander the dash.

The scuttle cover comes off easy enough but the clips normally break so I'd order some new ones - Part number is on my website. You'll need to remove the wipers if you want to take the scuttle off.

TBH you can get in there without removing it.

the glovebox is eisley removed and then you will see the gromet it is really quite simple just a few screws 1 plug for the light and the air con pipe then it should just pop out

tommy just noticed thet you are in the south east regon as am i it you need a hand i would be happy to help just pm me

Well the rain has put a halt on the "working on it all day" plan then.......

Stu, i've tried to follow what you suggested but the grommet on the passenger side just under the scuttle cover actually comes out behind the wheel arch liner, as i've just found out!!

Can't get the wipers off at the mo either :( . Looks like i need some sort of puller/ splitter tool cos they're on a splined taper.

I'm close to giving up on the whole idea because i don't wanna go drilling holes in my car!!!!

Taken out the glovebox and assessed whether the grommet the rear washer pipe uses is big enough to get through.

PS: I used a big drill, but then I have around 8 to 10 wires going into my engine bay.

I don't mean the washer pipe grommet.

There is a grommet in the top corner of the scuttle which makes a nice access into the car. On the opposite side it carries the bonnet release cable.

The wiper arms are quite stiff, you can normally get them off by wiggling them, failing that Halfrauds sell a removal tool. If removing wiper arms I normally mark the position of the wiper by placing a strip of tape on the windscreen alongside the wiper blade.

Yep - I knew you were referring to the one near the cuttle panel :P but I got a PM from Tom asking my opinion on the matter, so figured I'd mention the washer pipe grommet. ;) Of course now my washer pipe grommet is now about a 1" diameter hole. :D

I looked at the rear washer pipe grommet but couldn't fit the wire through with the pipe there too (the cable i'm using is 8 Gauge). I'm reluctant to drill holes in the car because i'm paranoid about rust....(i plan to keep the car FOREVER!!!!!)

I might just go for the drilling option and glob a load of silicon sealant around it when it's in.....?!!!

I've given up at the mo. Will make a fresh start on it next weekend.

Thanks for the help and tips guys :)

If you are worried about rust after drilling a hole , carefully using a zinc based paint on its unprotected metal edge. You should also always use a rubber grommet ( Maplins ) to stop the cable insulation being chaffed by the metal , which could lead to a short circuit .

I've got some grommets and was planning on painting the exposed edges too. Didn't know Zinc based paint was the best stuff to use tho, Cheers ;)

The propper grommet as Stu mentioned is the best place to go in, I ave done so with 4awg cable before and had no problems.

I need to run some vacuum hose through on the OS, is it the same as NS? As in go though the grommet above the strut top and then through the scuttle area and through another grommet?

Yes its there but has the bonnet cable going through it.

Hmmm cheers, maybe I could squeeze some of the hard vacuum tubing through as well, i'll give it a go.
