How do I get the battery out please?

Featured Replies

Sorry if Im being blonde here (even though Im brunette/gray), but my battery keeps running out and Ive had it jumped started a few times - I have asked my OH to take the battery out but he said its impossible to get the thing out without specialist tools?

Is this correct or a ruse on the part of OH?

He needs a slap ;) Think you just need a socket (13mm?) to undo the bit of metal at the front of the battery which clamps it in place. Then the battery will just lift out.

Thanks BUT oh dear, Ive now found the search facility and have read on another posting that the battery is not supposed to be removed except by the dealer as it ******** up the electronics???

Never had any probs when I changed mine (well aside from the bitter cold making my hands numb!) Just make sure you have your radio code and remember to reset your clock and 1-touch windows if you have electric windows :D

When you remove the terminals, wrap them in tape or something, to prevent them touching and creating a nasty short. BUt the rest of the above is true. One bolt holds it down - possibly at both ends. Mine's now firmly clamped down in the boot. :D

You also need 10mm socket / spanner for the terminals and the bolt to the air filter base. The carrier is in 3 pieces which just clip together and don't need tools. Whilst it's out (if it is a big one) take the opportunity to check the power steering fluid. I've had mine out just to do the latter, not rushing - so out for about an hour, and simply re-attached when done. No problems. Radio shows safe then learn and hey presto it's back as originally programmed. Miles elapsed since last reset goes to zero and clock needs resetting, but nothing else. Bet you find the 10mm nuts on the fuse bar are not as tight as they should be.
