Bit of VAG-COM did the trick!!

Featured Replies

Sorted my air-bag warning light problem today... after a bit of frustration..

Ordered a cable off ebay to connect to my car and downloaded the VAG COM software.

Plugged it into my laptop and downloded drivers from manufacturers website they installed ok but i couldn't get the software to find the cable....

So i had to wait till i finished work and took the laptop to the car... as soon as i plugged the cable into the car it lit up and the software picked it up... did a scan of the air-bag controller and reset the fault code on there... said something about too much resistance (the system is ok it was just in error state due to removing steering wheel to fit automatic headlight system) and now all is fine.

I also now have to ability to scan engine and all other systems for faults should i have any problems in the future... am also happy to help any one out local to me that may need/want their systems checking for errors.

p.s. automatic lights rock... no more switching them on and off manually... and they stay on for around 10-15 seconds after ignition off... so good if you need to find your way in the dark.

were is local???

lol... local being lancaster in the north west... prob not too many peeps round near here though!!

p.s. works with newer skodas, vw's, seats, audis....

There's supposed to be something that works with the Favorit but it has a weird connector, am pretty certain it's totally different to the Felicia.

Yup! Will work with that car... mine is a 1.3 but the old shape 96 model.

The connector is in the drivers footwell in the same place as the bonnet release catch just mirrored to the other side.

I paid slightly more for mine from a UK seller so that i had is before i went on holiday but theres quite a few from hong kong pretty cheap.

I just searched for "skoda obd2" and go for any that say 409.1 in the title or say that they are compatible with the 409.1 vag com software and then download this software from Ross-Techs website (google it).

The cable will have its own drivers with it being 3rd party.

In case your wondering mine is a blue one manufactured by a company called Autonostics (www.autonostics.com).

Hope this helps and good luck with your purchase.

(p.s. i believe that there is a way of reading the cars mileage through the ecu but not sure how....)

What is this auto headlight doohicky??

No its something that i purchased off ebay and i believe is only available in the US as i couldn't find them anywhere else apart from this one seller in the US.

Its a small black box with loads of wires coming off it that basically when its dark automatically switches the lights on when the ignition os switched on with a 4 second delay... then when its light enough theres about a 10 second delay to them switching off again.

They also stay on for around 10-15 seconds after the ignition is switched off (adjustable via a small **** on the side).

It also has wires to connect to park brake wire so that when the hand brake is on the lights go off.

Havnt quite perfected the wiring yet though due to the funny wiring in the felicia... i.e. the headlights only coming on when the ignition is on so i need to keep the main headlight switch on for the lights to come on fully other wise i just get sidelights... have wired the output to what i think is the output of the headlight switch but it doesnt seem to work that way.

Can you tell us exactly which cable it is from that page as there is a choice of three?

SKU: OU

SKU: OR

SKU: OC

I am thinking about getting one especially if its compatiable with Octavias etc

The one that would be compatible would be the SKU: OU.

Get onto ebay and search for "Skoda KKL" or "skoda obd2" and get one from there.

Just make sure it has dual-k lines (most of them do have them with auto switching) as this is required for newer cars.

And also make sure that it says 409.1 or something similar as this will indicate to you that it is compatible with the VAG-COM software.

Most cables that you buy off ebay have a usb interface but basically have a serial interface that is emualted through usb to the pc so you have to set up a com port etc in windows and set VAG-COM to connect through this port... it doesn't affect the working of it... got mine set up in no time and works just fine.

Get back in touch if you need some help.

p.s. would have searched and found a few examples for you myself but i cant seem to be able to search in ebay... just comes up with an error... stupid toucan!!
