For this week I'm driving a 2003 Fabia, accoding to the trip computer my average for one journey was 48.5 MPG. How accurate is the trip computer?

Its probably doing slightly less than it says.

On the last tankfull mine registered 47.3mpg, After a refill done the maths, actual was 39.93mpg. i tend not to hang around. My current carbon footprint, size 15!!

Mine's about 4mpg out on the optimistic side.

Does anyone know how the trip computer can be inaccurate? After all, the car should know how much fuel it is injecting and also how many miles have been covered?!

Gas as in LPG? Dunno about that but I had a mate once who had his FTO v6 running on petrol and Gas, he just pressed a button to switch between them - got a goverment grant i think to do it.

Yeah - sorry - I meant diesel, not LPG. I filled the car up yesterday and I'd done 400 miles since the previous fill-up, but I was expecting a bit more mileage. However, having just got the car, I did boot the turbo a little more than I should have in 2nd and 3rd, which would probably account for it! I'm gonna drive a bit more economically this time around and try and aim for 500 miles. Cheers guys.

Mine always ran about 2mpg over.

That said, just zero the trip each time & work out how many miles you get for how many litres you put in, you lazy sod

Ultra economical mongrel. Long term average for last couple of thou' is about 56mpg according to the computer, and this would be about right given the mileage I do and the amount of fuel I put in each time.

Yeah same with me when i got mine - 3rd gear acceloration was a bit too tempting and i was getting around the 400 mark but now the novelty has worn off i'm getting over 500 every fill up.

550 miles? That's amazing! What ya got under the bonnet of your Fabia with 260bhp? Isn't that a bit much for a FWD car to handle or is it OK?
