pd160 intake quesitons

Featured Replies

Hello all.

Just fitted this little number. Ordered it from VAG Parts cost me

I would imagine that part-throttle and top gear roll-on would improve as more air is (or should be) getting to where it matters, at least that's what I'm hoping as I have just bought one from VAGParts at the same price for my pd100.

I'm sure I've seen folk on here advocating removing some of the restrictive flap on the slam panel, and others flamining them saying water will get into the airbox ... you pay your money, and take your choice!

Never mind sorted the gap out with a black cable tie to now the pipe from the airbox sits nice and tight on the slam panel part.

make sure the larger intake pipe does not chaff on the small coolant hoses

the deflector flap on the slam panel can be opened out , but as has been said , you run a greater risk of water getting in , but if you drive through deep water , it will get in the air box anyway

my flap is removed without any probs (up to now)

It is chafing but Im going to use a black cable tie to tie it to the plastic hose to the left of it.

the easy method is to twist the larger hose anti-clockwise on the housing under the smaller hoses , this moves all the smaller hoses away from the intake pipe

I didnt fancy twisting hoses in case something came loose!

But anyway here are the pics. Not the prettiest engine bay but functional nonetheless

just keep an eye on the area when you check your oil , there might be a gap there now , but when you accelerate the engine moves and may bring the intake pipe into contact with the hoses

The cable tie will be alright on that pipe wont it? Because that wont be moving unlike the air intake and shouldnt chafe against it? Ive put it over the hard part where there is a little teet (ooo madam) underneath.

it should be ok , just keep an eye on it
