More rattles than a baby

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone

Car seems to have developed a few rattles over the past few weeks.

1. The gearstick/linkage/box rattles when in Neutral and idling. Clutch in/out makes no difference

2. Plastic trim in handbrake area has begun to rattle at certain revs and when going over bumps.

3. When the other two are not drowning it out, there is also a quiet one from in the centre of the dash

Usual glove box rattle too.

These are all going to be drawn to the dealers attention as warrenty issues when car goes in for its first service, but if anyone can shed any light on the causes or cures for these issues, so I know what i'm dealing with, I would very much appreciate it.

Many thanks

Mark

the handbrake one I think its the drivers seatbelt buckle vibrating against the centre console

ah - will check when driving home later. Many thanks

I had a dash/glovebox rattle on my SE - was the stabiliser bar behind the dash needed tightening.

It was annoying enough to get it done sooner rather than later

I get quite a lot of rattling from my doorcard. Might need tightening

Welcome to the Skoda owners' club!

My door cards rather like a mo fo.....never getting my windows tinted again!

Oh the glovebox rattles too and the wires for the fog-lights, the rear parcel shelf, something else in the back I can't quite narrow down....all in all I have to crank the stereo up to the max to drown out all the rattles! Funnily enough, whenever I test drive another car now, it's the first thing I tend to notice (the lack of rattles!)

Try driving a Corsa C down 30mm on standard shocks with 40 profile tyres for 2 years you'll know what rattles are then.

My Vrs has more noises, squeaks, lose trim and rattles etc from the interior than anything I have ever owned. It's had heavy life but so has everything else. It's got old very quickly in every way.

Seems to be par for the course with them, sunvisors, door cards, seats, clutch pedal, centre consol, dash, tailgate trim..... I could go on.

The Mk2 is a lot better put together.

something else in the back I can't quite narrow down

could be the rear seats where backs the are held/clipped on to the wheel arches - the bit you can see when you put the rear seats down

I put insulating tape around the metal bits and it stopped that one

When i got my car it had loads of rattles, a few months of finding them and silencing them and its now completely rattle free. I Have also put edead sound deadening in all four doors and cards and they are also very quite now.

A mans best freind in the fight against rattles is.................felt tape

Whoever invented felt tape needs a pat on the back, its ace for curing squeaks and rattles.

Yeah, mine has a couple of rattles here and there, nothing I can't drown out with the iPod...

But got in a mate's Focus last week and had to raise my voice to be heard over the rattles - sounded like the whole interior was about to disintegrate!

I reckon VW make sure there are a couple of sqeaks and rattles in the Skodas to justify the extra cost of the VW equivalent ;)

Stop taking speed humps at 60 :D

The sad thing is that my old T reg Civic didn't have any from the day I got it to the day I got rid of it. Alright, so a bit of the trim had begun to fall off and it had a fair amount of body damage to it by the end, but the thing was silent and sometimes me me think it had cut out at traffic lights. Jap cars certainly are well put together ... well Hondas are anyway!

My old Focus was ridiculously rattly! Currently, the vRS hasn't got a single one.

My door cards rather like a mo fo.....never getting my windows tinted again!

I replaced the plastic pegs in the doorcard once id finished the tinting and the speaker setup. Cost is next to nothing
