Hi,

Well now got fluctuating at idle from 500 to 2000 revs, had this before and as soon as you switch off then restart it has gone!. Garage cleaned the throttle body I think they said but it still does it occasionally - any ideas?

Also I get a strange feeling from the steering usually when on a curved bit of road it almost feels like driving on ice is the best way I could describe it - has anyone else had this

Went up onto Dartmoor earlier today and got held up by this slow car in front which was - yep another 16v 1.4, I think they must have put the wrong badge on mine it should be a 1.0 instead

Cheers

I had the fluctuating idle on my VW a while back - they cleaned out the throttle body and replaced the crankshaft sensor, I think. As for the icy steering - I've no idea what that could be, sorry.

I have the icy steering as well as the steering cutting out and going really hard.

When I first switch on and set off it tends to cut off and be hard then after a while it can suddenly go really sensative like yours especially when the headlights are doing the flickering thing.

The good people on here tell me it's the steering angle sensor but as the fault just comes and goes it doesn't last long enough to register a fault so skoda tell me they can't find anything.

The throttle body will need a good clean. I've done this on a few of my friends cars and is relatively easy. Remove the air cleaner assembly and you should see the throttle body with the butterfly valve inside. It will probably look quite sooty. Using a lint free cloth and some fuel or similar cleaning product clean away all deposits ensuring bits dont fall into the throttle body itself. You can hold the butterfly valve open with the throttle cable with one hand whilst cleaning with the other. Reasemble and fingers crossed.
