Air Filter change - easier than expected

Featured Replies

I haven't seen much posted on the DIY side of changing the air filter on the Octavia 1.8T, but it was easier than expected compared with some other cars.

Just unscrew the 2 screws at the back and if you are careful it lifts up. Wipe the inside of the airbox down after you've taken the old filter out.

When putting the new one in make sure its sealed around the edges properly and all the lugs are lined up on the forward edge of the box (the front of the car). There are then two plastic 'stays' (look like clips) at the back edge which you seat the lid of the airbox against.

I actually took off the plastic battery cover and engine cover to make more room beforehand but I don't think you need to really. I just stuck in a standard filter (old one very dirty after 30'odd k) as I've lost MAF sensors in the past due to oiled free-flow filters so don't bother anymore for the extra 3 or 4 bhp.

Yep - should be a piece of pi55 for me to fit the green filter then. :D (and do the air trumpet mod while I'm there)

I fitted my green filter yesterday, 3 minutes work - I was pretty impressed at how simple it was. I don't know whether I am imagining it, but the car does seem to pull better, and sounds a bit deeper too...

Fitted mine too, but then got worried about a strangle dull rattle coming from the engine as I was driving through town. I stopped and re-opened the airbox to take a look and it was still fine. Better keep my eye on that one.... TBH I probably only spotted it because I was driving without the music on... :speaker:
