Hello one and all, I'm looking for a 2004/05 Octavia VRS estate. I can't actually drive the **** at the moment following a 90mph interface with a tyre wall at Lydden Hill, but never mind.

I'll just have to enjoy the window shopping until December/January when my left arm should be fixed up.

Anyway, I'll got ten large to drop. My question is - is stability (ESP) control worth having, bearing in mind my g/friend will also drive it.

And - a really lame question but...is that leather/cloth upholstery easily cleaned? It looks like a magnet for dirt.

I thank you.

David

Ten large is a big budget for a MK1.

If you could stretch to adding a few more you'd find yourself sitting in a 2.0 TFSi vRS.

Welcome.

Cheers fella.

I'd love to go a bit more, but 'er indoors says that's it. I'd consider a BMW 320 with a chip (or a stock 330D), but I just really think the vRS would be more my cup of splosh. Especially after a visit to Jabba or Superchips.

Maybe by Chrimbo the '06 prices will have come down...but I'm not exactly holding my breath.

I'd agree with Stu that 10k is a lot for a MK I, I guess you could buy a much older MK I and heavily modify it, but if it was my money I'd be considering a MK II or something else.

I would say that ESP is worth it, mainly because the ASR cuts in so early and easily that I actually find it dangerous as soon as you get any standing water. The ESP on the golf I drove was much more progressive.

Having driven VAG cars with ASR and ESP, I'd say don't bother paying out the extra for ESP! You're better off spending the £500 on a limit handling day and learning how to drive the car properly :D

Wot? Spend 'car money' on 'er indoors? I think not...oh...me...right.

BTW, what is the vRS like around a track? I've raced bikes for a few years (hence the crash), but I've never done a trackday in a car, let alone a 180bhp, front-wheel drive one.

ASR is not really worth the money, not because it's over-sensitive, but because it is mind-bogglingly slow to react. By the time it cuts in, I've already reacted!
