Paint Blemish

Featured Replies

Hi all,

wondered if anyone else has noticed this problem on there Car. I have a three week old Black Octy vRS , And after giving it it's second wash, noticed a few blemish spots around the spoiler , and rear pillar areas. This blemish is a sort of blue' ish looking blemish, and I also noticed the same type of blemish on the rear hatch glass, when it was in the showroom before picking it up (I presumed it was something that would polish off ! ).

The Blemish spots look like water spots, only they do not come off with a wipe, and I am not to keen to start putting any compounds on it until I know what I am dealing with.

Cheers,

Bob.

it will be a slight oxidisation - usually it comes off with Finesse or T-cut.

I'm assuming its a new car.

I agree that you shouldn't go near it with any cleaning compound and certainly not T-cut which is quite abrasive and could easily damage the clear coat.

Go make yourself a brew and a butty, and then sit down to have a read of Marwood recent tale of paint problems - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/marwoods-paintwork-problems-disaster/82742/

I can't tell whether you have the same problems or not, but you can learn a lot from this whole situation, how it developed, and how ultimately it was resolved.

Good luck!

Yes it is a new car. But the paint blemishes of which I speak are nothing like anything "Marwoods Horror story" . His was down to something related to polishing with electric buffer machine , judging by the problem of massive swirls in his paintwork .

I think the oxidisation theory sounds more like what I am seeing, but its also in the glass on the hatch as well, so I am a bit confused, does anyone know if the glass marking is also an oxidisation problem ?.

We live near a Power Station, which I have suspected (and actually seen ) pumps out a orange coloured stream of *hit on the odd occasion, I wondered if that could be causing it], but as I mentioned before, the glass markings were on/ in the glass when I picked the car up from the dealers ? .

Get a clay bar kit and carefully follow the instructions on that I'd say :)

Just hope you don't have to get Skoda UK involved on any paint issues - they will blame you and wave you good bye!

Me...sour....nooooo, never. Well a bit maybe.

To mark glass properly in a permanent way you would need some really nasty acids etc.

Yes I know that glass is impervious to most things other than HCL and Hydrofloric acids, but it would appear to be some kind of "etching" in the glass rather than something that you can clean off . Everything I have tried to clean the glass with has done nothing .

HCL doesn't really etch glass unless really strong, so I can't see it being anything you did.

Have you tried the intensive glass cleaners that are like a car polish, or as I said a mild clay bar with lubricant.

Personally I'd go back to the dealers as it sounds like something a bit nasty has got on there.

The only Auto Glass cleaner I have tried is Autoglyms "fast glass" spray, which did nowt !

Do these clay bars clean glass as well ? . I don't really know much about this type of cleaning (I am an old fart you see ) .

Bob.

I've not used clay myself, but I believe you can use it to clean glass too. If you do, make sure you use plenty of lubricant and a clean, mild bar.

The other autogym/halfords glass cleaner that is a white liquid you apply like a polish, might do the trick, but I wouldn't expect fast glass to touch it.

Had a good look at the car yesterday afternoon in bright sunlight , the roof in particular is a right mess, as are most flat surfaces, bonnet , tops of wings etc.

A guy over the road from me has had his new car a few months, and his is also black,so I thought I would walk over and ask him if his car had any blemishes on it .

He looked at me like I was off another planet, when I asked him if I could check "HIS CAR" for blemishes, (as my missus tutted to herself standing by our gate .).

Guess what............... his car has the same blemishes all over it as mine.

I think that during the last two weeks (whilst I was away ,and car was left on driveway)

The local Power station has been pumping out something nasty , which has come down in the rain and settled on our vehicles. You only seem to be able to detect this blemish on black cars, my SI Fiesta (maroon) looks ok, and thats been parked next to the Octy all the time.

My Sons mate (a local Farmer) who lives right next to the station (which is about a mile away from me, and the prevailing wind is from that direction ). Informs me that they regularly pump out crap early hours 03:00 -- 04:00 hrs . This info was from an employee at the station allegedly ! .

So how the *uck do I sort this one out ...... destroy the power plant, move, or empty my garage of my Sons crap and start putting the car in at night..... I think I have already answered my own question really .

PS . These bluish markings do come out with a bit of elbow grease and some MER Polish.

But it takes a while by hand . Any suggestions on an easier cleaner / polish would be great, as it would appear that this is going to be a regular type of job (until I clear the garage anyway ! ).

local papers may be your first stop. we had something similar at the gas powerstation near us when it was being commisioned. all the cars kept getting covered in an orange substance over a two week period and the papers had a field day with it as it was damaging the paint on some cars.

not sure if meguiars scratch X would be any good for this with it not being a scratch?

Clay bar the car then use a decent polish (not wax) and then put a few layers of a high quality, durable wax like collinite on it.

All you can then do it rinse the car with water daily and wash it weekly, plus apply wax as soon as it stops beading in any of the effected areas.

That would at least mean the chemical causing the blemish won't damage your paint work.

What colour are the blemishes (sorry if i missed this earlier)

Hi Cheezie ,

The blemishes are a blue colour . There was some media coverage on this power plant pumping *hit out when it was first commissioned. I suspect that this is the same power station as one of you guys mentioned in your post on this thread. Connahs Quay in Flintshire ...........

I have seen some pretty weird coloured stuff emmiting from the stacks there a few times.

Bob.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I will have to follow your advice regarding the polish and wax coatings. It's just that there are so many different products on the market I am not sure which to go for .

Regards,

Bob

have a look on detailing world as the people there know much more than me, but something like poorboys polish and collinite wax should last well. Elite Car Care sell both as do other online places.

Depending on what the power station runs off, the blue sounds like you have some interesting non carbon compounds coming out of the chimney of the local place. Of course you have to bear in mind that this stuff could come from anywhere not just there so you can't be sure.

Like i said, clay the car first then polish and put a few layers of wax on. After that it is just a case of regular washing and keeping the wax layers up.

It does indeed . I hail from "Sunny Shotton" . And When I go down the Gawain I can get a grandstand view of the crap coming out of the Power Plant .

Just an update... I have managed to remove all the blemishes from the paint using Polish and have ordered some mgs NTX Liqiud wax to seal it all for the winter.

Having trouble with tree sap at present, so have changed parking space at work ......
