Another oil question

Featured Replies

I can't seem to get hold of any 505.01 oil from anyone round here. Can the Castrol SLX Longlife II 506.01 be used in a PD engine set to standard service schedules? I'm willing to pay the extra if it can be. I can't see why not as the engine is the same and the oil can cope with up to 30k in the variable schedule engines.

Would this be acceptable??

iam sure that the castrol longlife is the oil the car is filled with when made. will be ok to use. when you looking at changing as i will be a brunter on 24 and can bring the vw pd oil if you wish??

Wanna get it done before brunters. Car now has 11.5k on the clock, though the service light ain't come on yet though.

Will probably get some SLX II then. My local Halfords stocks this. Cheers mate.

Graeme, I used some castrol slx 2 stuff after about 5000 miles.

The dip stick was on the lower level mark so decided to buy half a litre (

Take your car in @ 10,000 miles, dont wait for the light it may not be set up right, quite a few aint. The Fabia doesnt run variable servicing so get it in. It doesnt have the programming capabiltiy in the dash for it, nor does it have an oil quality/level sensor in the engine.

Also another good indicator of whether a car can be run on variable servicing is pad sensors, these are a requirement on variable servicing and the Fabia vRS doesnt have them.

Going to book mine in for its first service next week.

My Skoda dealer stocks Quantum oil meeting spec VW 505 01 and VAG-branded oil of the same spec.

Any VAG dealer should stock the PD oil in the white bottles

Be it Audi, VW, SEAT or Skoda.

Have you considered Millers XFE-PD at about

My car is now past 40K, and the light has not come on.

The old one went off on 19,29,39K miles on the dot but this one was last serviced at 27000 miles, so it's now done over 13K on its current oil & filters (well, apart from the green air filter I've now got in). I'm having oil and that changed this weekend, but I'm curious why the service light hasn't come on... I can only assume it was on variable?

Maybe the service indicator is broken? :D

Rob.

Finally, a fault I actually WANT to have... Its not like I need reminding.

Nick - that's what I paid from my local motor spares place for 5L XFE-PD, if that's any help, and they told me that was "trade" price which I think they give everyone anyway to encourage them to come back. ;) "oh yeah, mate. I'll give you trade price on that one, mate!" :D

Thats great. Thanks v much

Bert where did you find the prices? Millers don't seem to sell the normal oil range direct ...

Nick:

Sorry about the delay in replying; I've only just noticed your posting. I checked on the Millers Oil site and saw that 'oils will be available by mail order eventually'. Sorry if I misled you; I assumed when I saw the Mail Order heading that you could actually order from them by mail order! Especially when they quote

I have a contact number for a Millers rep if anyone needs it,the oil is delivered in 2 days, and its bloody good stuff (the Motorsport stuff)
