312mm front and 256mm vented rear brake discs on a normal Octavia??

Featured Replies

Well I am looking at upgrading the brakes. I was going to go for the Jabba Brembo kit, but after having a hard think about the applications of the car and economy, I think that upgraded pads and disc will do. Being as technically adept as a goldfish I need some information. Pad-wise I am going for the Ferodo DS2500. Disc-wise I was thinking of some Black Diamond disc. I would like to go for RS disc size: 312mm front and 256mm vented rears. Can the standard brake setup accommodate for these discs?? Is it a straight disc swap??

I have tried searching for some info and it has been asked before but I couldn't find any answers?

no you will need RS hubs as well.. i think the front calipers are the same but not sure on the rears?

Thought it was just the caliper carriers of a vRS, TT, S3, etc that you needed?

Rears are an **** as you need new hubs, calipers, carriers, splash guard and pipework. plus it could upset the braking balance of the car with the Fabia being lighter than bigger models.

Fronts are reasonably easy to do, atho im told that there are slight differences between the fabia calipers and others so you will need calipers and carriers off a TT/S3/Golf Anni/Octy. theres usually alot of wheeling and dealing of the required parts over on uk-mkIV as its a popular upgrade for them.

Rears are easy enough to do.

All you need are four spacers (or washers) and four longer bolts to mount the carrier slightly further in. Remove the heatsheilds or trim them in a bit.

Remove the old caliper and carrier, pop the disc off. remove/trim the shield, fit up the vented disc, fit the new carrier with the spacers and longer bolts, whack the pads on and fit the new vented caliper and bleed out.

I've got a set and am now quite tempted to do them to prove it can be done, I have done several MK4 Golfs in the same way and the rear beam/suspension and brakes are identical on the Fabia, just a bit narrower thats all.

And the 312mm fronts are a straight swap provding you have the carriers.

So basically I would need the vRS carriers for the front?? Any idea on cost?? Will talk to Jabba about Ross's recipe on the back brakes.

Have a look on the end of your caliper near the slot where you can se the pads (might need the wheel off) it should have imbossed in it '54'. This is the size of your piston. Providing it has this the caliper unit is the same, all you need is the carrier and a pair of discs.

Carriers if brand new are aound

 cheers, will have a look

I'm confused. Does the Fabia Vrs have the same brakes as the non-RS Octavia? Christian has an Octavia not a Fabia...

Yes.

Thanks for that info, Ross. My ETKA unfortunately doesn't feature the Fabia Vrs.

When I painted my rear calipers red I didnt want to ruin the std green ones so I found a set of MK4 Golf rear calipers at work, painted them and stuck em on, they are the same as the Octavia ones.

Getting more and more likely that im going to fit the vented rears now I think.

talked to jabba, and explained them what ross had said here. Unfortunately they told me that they just couldn

Yeah they are right.

You would need a complete vented set up for the rear, the calipers are wider for the new disc.

But for the front you just need the carriers.
