1.9 Diesel Van, WHY NOT to buy it ??

Recommended Posts

Good morning all,

Well, tell me why not to buy the following pickup/van please ?

The 1.3 I was trying to get cheap insurance for got bought up, and rightly so, as the price was right.

Here is the description as cut and pasted, of the van I may want to buy, depending on your feedback.

Brilliant fuel economy, averages 50mpg

Hi-top van, can be converted to pick-up by removing the top

Low running costs: fuel, tyres, parts etc

117,000 miles

Non turbo

4 good tyres, replaced around May 2007

Full Skoda service history until 80,000 - home servicing since 80,000, necessary repairs carried out by VW and Skoda approved garage: engine flush, oil and filter change every 8-10,000 miles. Easy to self-service, parts readily available through ebay, motor factors etc.

Recent gearbox and clutch replacement (£500)

New catalytic converter and middle exhaust May 2006 (£400)

Battery replaced May 2006

Interior in excellent condition - no rips or tears in seats or carpets

White bodywork in pretty good condition for age, some surface rust by the arches and bonnet that has been treated and sprayed

Reliable work horse van, has driven us for work up and down the country with excellent fuel economy, easy loading and plenty of space for equipment etc. Before we owned this van it was used as a sandwich delivery van.

Driver's cab separated by glass from the van so no noise in the cabm seats are comfortable for long journeys

Good value van for it's age, we're selling as a bigger van with more seats is needed for business and family!

Has always been a good starter, winter or summer

It's a good runner, drives fine on the motorway and will sit easily at 85mph if you need it,

All feedback appreciated.

bit uncomfortable sitting in the back :D

117k may be low for a diesel but every other part has done 117k so will be a little tired.

Isn't this higher insurance because it's classed as a commercial ?

dont sound bad. not quite sure that it is, a cube van, or a pick-up.

ps; why were you up, and posting at 5:49 in the morning????

Up all hours.... hmmmmm, yes, result of a mispent youth, and adult life, Motorbikes etc, need I say more?

I have a habit of going to sleep very easily around 11pm, but if I wake from about 4.30 am, then my head starts working, and eventually I give up on getting back to sleep and get up, make myself tea, clean house  garage, bikes, or surf the net on "Car-porn" sites.

It is a cube, but pop off the canopy and you have a truck.

The insurance is a pain, and I had 2 hit and run carpark type dings on my company car, and a no fault in '04 , '05 so they quotes are all a bit sill considering it will only be a toy to me.

Quite right on the tiredness of the rest of the truck, and sitting in the back, not in this country:D

Insurance is easy if you get to the right people, and they will ask you repeatedly if it really is for Social, domestic and pleasure use only. Or "Why do you want a pickup truck?" to which I always want to give some pretty nasty answers.

But it is do-able if you specify domestic use only.

PS: for some old codgers.... this time of day, being pre-06.00, would be when the wet bed gets to be a bit cold.:D

dont the cube van have swing doors? so no tail gate.

Correct, swing doors, and nice looking ones at that.

However, think more "Redneck" than Red Lion.

I would like to try create the pickup below, and the idea is racing type cargo net/whatever you call the nets that go over stock car windows, and on some race trucks.

Call me mad.

a bit late I know , but I have the cube van version from new . Reason not to buy it ? Insanity is the only one I can think of ,I keep up on the servicing and maintain it properly, it has never ( tempting fate ) let me down , and is cheap to run, insure and mot's without any problem.

Sounds like a good reason, i just need to find one at a very reasonable price.
