help front knocking

Featured Replies

Right i have had a knocking sound from the front of my car for about a month now, it dose it when i reverse in my driveway and also in some tight corners, at first i thought anti roll bar but i have now taken the front wheels off and the anti roll bar seems fine had a look at the wishbone bushes they seem ok. im clueless any ideas any one the wheels are of at the moment so any quick ideas and ill go and have a look.

also the front tyres witch i replaced were worn moor on the inside os in gessing the wheels are in a toe out rather than paralell could the wish bone bush have gone but i cant see that it has gone:confused:

anti-roll bar links can cause knocks , as can the usual roll bar bushes, wishbone bushes, gearbox mount, dogbone mount,

i've changed all these with the exception of the gearbox mount and it still knocks

sounds like you have a tracking issue ,get it checked and adjusted as necessary , also when the console bushes get old they allow the wheel to move more especially under braking , this could be causing the tyre wear

I would say the drop links would be worth changing. Also take yourself for a wheel alignment check afterwoods.

Drop links are pretty cheap and easy to change.

i think im going to take the car back to the dealer i do have a rear anti roll bar and a strut brace do you think this could have had a affect on it and would it be under warinty if it is is it worth taking the rear roll bar off and the strut brace bfor the visit to the dealer i have only done 12000 mils and it is only 6 month old

i wouldn't bother taking the rear ARB off , as the knock is from the front , but to be on the safe side i would take the strut brace off

Grease up the gearbox engine mount. Mine knocked and I could not trace the fault for love nor money. New drop links, track rod ends and I had my ARB and control arm bushes inspected. All were fine.

I then decided to do the official Skoda 'fix' for random knocking at the front end. This cured it and the knock when dipping the clutch to change gear. Best thing I've ever done to this car in terms of fixing faults.

Does anybody have a picture of the mount that needs greasing?

Can it be accessed from above or will the car need jacking up?

I also get this intermittent knocking.

accessed from above , but to do the job properly , the air filter box and battery box need to be removed to grease the mount , special grease required also

Yup, silicon grease. Remove the airbox and battery as above and drown the entire mount in grease.....all sides. That's what we did and it's been fine ever since.

Normal grease wont cut it though as it'd either rot the rubber or dribble away as it gets hot in there hence the use of silicon grease.

I had a knocking sound on the right side.

Looked at all bushes ok

In the end it this the bottom ball joint

i dont get a knocking noise its more of a sort of fairly quiet juggling noise I dont know how to describe it lol but its quite intermittent.
