Poor Idle....

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got got a idle issue with my 98 S reg Octavia 1.6 AKL. Idle is fine when you start the car from cold, once it's warmed up the idle jumps around from 800 -1200 rpm and then settles then down again an the does the same again the same again etc, sort of a pulsing effect.

On occasion when is just been switched off and then 5 minutes later you try and start it, the starter will turn over, but nothing, turn the key again then it'll start immediately.

If just ordered a new MAF and a temp sensor as both have never been changed (i've had the car from new) and I'm up to just under 178,000. Is there anything elso that could cause the problem, the throttle body has already been cleaned and made no difference.

Plugs, leads filters etc have all been changed at some point over the last six months etc and no fault codes are present.

I reckon you've probably nailed the two obvious sensor issues, although it might also be that the throttle body needs resetting after you cleaned it. This can be done through the diagnostics, although I've also heard that leaving the car with the ignition on the second 'click' but not turning the engine over for a minute or so can reset it...

I think thats an old wives tale TBH

Try it though

1. open bonnet

2 put key in ignition turn to position two

3. you'll hear a little motor noise

4. leave about 1 min

5. job done alledegly

Take this with a pinch of salt as i think it's a load of ar5e
