first time so im a bit of a new boy to all this. im currently driving around in a 2002 4x4 octavia estate. my question if any one can answer me is, what is the difference in set up between the three different peftrol engines? ive only got 150 brake and am looking at doing the best thing for my engine and smash the power up.

you just need a remap.

the only difference is the map with the vRS and the other 150bhp models

When you say three engines, I assume you're referring to the standard 150hp 1.8T unit as found in the majority of VAG applications at the time (although there were many different engine codes some with left hand inlet manifolds, some with righthand units) Someone may correct me but all of these came with cable operated throttle bodies. Then there is the 180hp version found in the vRS model (engine code AUQ) with drive by wire throttle body.

Now I'm no expert ( ) but I believe the units fitted to 4x4 models although only rated to 150hp, also ran DBW throttle bodies. It is my understanding then that so far as remapping is concerned, a custom map (as opposed to generic programme) can achieve a power boost level above that of the cable operated throttle body units found in other models. There are a few 4x4 owners here who have undertaken various mods and should be able to clarify the above.

how ever some of the early golfs had a slightly smaller turbo (K03)

4x4 has the same engine as the vRS and the same potential. neither have the same potential out the box as the 210/225 engine due to internal difference and turbo/manifold.

random question time, does any body know how many 4x4t petrol estates 2002 were released as ive not seen too many.

no idea but the 4x4's in general aren't that common
