Does that fabia vRS engine have...

Featured Replies

16 valves or 8 valves? Read a few things but cant seem to find an answer!

Cheers

8v.

The 2.0 PD140 has 16v (except a handful of engines :) )

which is better?

Is what better than what?

MOST PD140s are 16v, its just a few DPF engines that are 8v IIRC.

Heard somewhere the 1.9pd's days are numbered can't remember where and how reliable!

8v or 16v?

I'm not that mechanically minded, but would I be right in saying that 16v is better for fuel economy and top end power, where as 8v is better for getting more power lower down?

I think they are tuned in such a way you can't really tell any difference! :)

The PD130 is being phased out yes - its not very keen on being Euro4 compliant...

Cheers for that!

I thought the 1.9 TDi PD units in general are being phased out now for the 2.0 TDi units? All the new VW's and Audis I have seen all sport 2.0 TDi lumps.

aside from the base-spec 105bhp 1.9's

In answer to your question:

1.9 TDi 8 Valve

2.0 TDi 16Valve

yes mate your correct, the single cam 8v engine is more torquey low down, but the 16v has more top end poke :) but its all about low down torque

As for fuel economy, the 2.0 isnt that great.

It is a more refined drive though, and a great engine :)

Quite happy with the 1.9PD though myself :D

PD being phased out, I believe, in favour of Common Rail as it is far more expensive to manufacture.

Remember road tests of old Golf GTI 8 valve and 16 valve. There was virtually no benefit (indeed the 8 valve might have been a bit torquier low down) until the 16valve got into it's stride above c5k i.e. better 'breathing' - and then it flew.

i remember that test too. in fact ive seen it in real life a few times too. the 8v has got a wee bit more troque off the mark but the 16v really opens up. if the 1.9tdi is 8v that would explain why my fabia is so grunty low down in the revs.
