Tried using my laptop to do a gig the other night and ran Laptop through an amp but could only use laptop on battery coz every time i used mains adapter i got a v loud buzzing like it needed ground but it was and every time i unplugged it and ran off battery the noise stopped

Ground loop. Simple solution might be to tie the ground of your lead to a true ground.
