Just wondering really if people can give me an idea what the average fuel consumption should be about on my car.

Only reason I ask is on my commute to work I am getting about 27-30mpg, bearing in mind my commute is mainly country lanes of around 6-7 miles each way and I don't hit very much traffic. I was thinking that kind of consumption is fairly heavy for a 1.6?

However Its abit different when I go long distance, like the other day I went down to Nottinghamshire way and got about 40-44mpg.

I've yet to check the usual things like air filter etc mind.

the consumption for your longer distance runs is about right. With your short runs the engine will be cold for most of the journey and driving country lanes can mean that you are on and off the throttle and using the gears a bit, so in these cirumstances 27-30 sounds about right.
