Flashing Glow Plug Light

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My Octavia is being plagued by a flashing glow plug light. On further investigation it appears that the reason for this is that the brake lights aren't working. I've checked the heads on the blubs and cleaned them, checked and changed the fuses but no joy.

Does anyone have any suggestions what else I could try? I've read that it could be a brake switch that is causing the problem - if it is, does anyone have any idea how costly it is to replace this?

Many thanks,

Iain

Hi Mate

Hi, I had a glow plug warning light come up, took it to my local dealer, and they replaced the brake switch, total cost £69. Problem solved, but the switch only cost around £7, so DIY fix would be good, but I have read of people getting into more trouble doing this, so I bit the bullet.

My glow plug light was flashing so I checked the brake lights anf they were both working but the strip of small brake lights in the hatchback had several bulbs blown.I replaced 4 small bulbs and the glow plug light stopped flashing for a couple of days then started flashing again. Both rear brake lights were working and the overhead strip in the hatchback.........i checked the near side brake bulb and the element seemed as though it had partially melted(but it still worked)?I changed this and the glow plug light stopped flashing!2 days later the glow plug started flashing again!Bugger!

I then checked the off side brake bulb and this also looked slightly dark and the element slightly melted?I changed this for a new bulb and the glow plug light stopped flashing! Two weeks later the glow plug light is still off!!

I can only think the warning system operates by checking the resistance of the bulbs and switches on the glow plug light when a bulb goes/blows(high resisitive circuit created)and if the bulb starts to decay(but still works)the resistance is such to trigger the warning light? Good Luck

I had the same intermittantly on my golf. Turned out to be the brake light switch.
