xbox 360's and external HD's???

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if you can use / plug external HD's into the 360's USB port so as to play mp3's etc.....

I keep having problems streaming the files from the PC to the xbox due to the firewall i use sometimes not wanting to give the 360 access to my PC.

I was toying with getting an external drive as a backup seeing as we now have around 30gig of mp3's along with quite a few photos & video and if i could use it to connect to the xbox that would sway it further.

Cheers

Never tried it myself, but I know a couple of people who have done it successfully. One said something about formatting it to an Apple format, but I wasn't really paying attention as to know why... :o

Yes, just plug the external drive into one of the USB ports and it will be displayed on the music player screen.

You can use the drive to play music, videos, and photos and the drive will be read only on the xbox.

You cannot use it to save XBL content or game saves onto.

The drive works perfectly well, but must be formatted using the FAT or FAT32 filesystem, NTFS wont work.

Cheers for the replies guys. I'm looking at something like 160 or 250gig for the drive so the fact that i'll have to use FAT32 rather than NTFS won't be too much of an issue. It'll just be easier to leave the drive next to the 360 so the mrs can easily play mp3's when she wants through the home entertainment system rather than having problems with the PC firewall which she doesn't like to play with. :D

Cheers

Dave.
