Misfiring & starting issues

Featured Replies

We are having some problems with my sisters car at the moment. It a Skoda Felicia 1.6 GLX - P Reg. She has had it well serviced recently, plugs, leads, rotor arm, distributor etc so the iginition system should be spot on, however when she starts it (sometimes needs a bit of help with the right pedal!) it runs very unevenly for a bit, and then gets going.

When she pulls away from the junction at the bottom of our road, sometimes it has low amount of power for a few seconds, and then misfires a bit and gets going. I said I would have a look so I cleaned the throttle body - have reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery all night, turning the ignition on for two mins and starting it, and I cleaned the sensor in the airbox - which looked like it had filler on it!

After all this there is still no improvement, I tried revving it a bit after starting it up tonight, and if you push the accelerator down quite a bit, it misfires badly, and then gets going.

I would be pleased for any help on this - I m beginning to think its fuel related.

:) Change the fuel filter. If that doesn't cure it have the ECU fault codes checked and rectify them as necessary.

Failing that your problem could be a failing head gasket.....have you lost coolant?

i would check the base distributor timing.... also check that the o-ring on the back of the distributor isn't allowing tons of oil into the hall sensor

I didn't realise I never responded on this one! We took it down to the garage, and plugged in VAG COM, and the temperature on the engine was reading way too low - the engine was warm so it should have been warmer than 35 degrees!

We changed the temperature sensor (the temperature guage wasn't reading right too) and this sorted it.

Thanks for your help and suggestions
