Temp Gauge

Featured Replies

Hi,

The temperature guage on my Octy seems to behaving differently to normal:confused:.Ive ruled out weather/temperature factors as it isn't yet cold enough to make any difference.

I was always surprised how quickly the car reached 90 from cold, but in the last week or so it stays on the rest for a while then relatively quickly reaches 90,sometimes hovering around 80 before settling where it should.

Ive timed it over the last few days and it reaches 90 within 7-8 minutes.I realize this isn't long, but it is not behaving as it previously did.

Do these symptoms sound more like a stuck Thermostat, rather that a faulty sender unit?

Don't know how it compares for the Octy, but I did a guide for the Fabia, here. Having posted it, some of the comments further down recommend replacing both sender and thermostat at the same time (one sits inside t'other). Apart from having to drain or clamp-off the coolant system, there's not much more to doing both than just doing the sender, and you get them as a pack from the dealer, so it doesn't cost much more either!

So IMO, you might as well apply the carpet-bombing approach, and do both in one go!
