Troubled new member saying hi to all.

I am new to this forum but not to Skodas, I am now on my third. But becoming very disappointed with the marque. First car Octavia 1.9TDi terrible fuel consumption and endless air mass metering problems(kept 6 months only). We now have a 52 plate Octavia VRs which had a coil spring break! and 1/4 of the cars paint peeled off, plus our 05 plate Fabia is now in the garage for the 10th day with no sign of what is wrong with it the last clue is a sticking valve.

You may ask why I stuck with Skoda well so far all problems have been in warranty so the high costs of Skoda repairs have been avoided and the Garage is in my fairly remote village so its a bit of laziness perhaps. However my patience has now been sorely tried and Skoda has some ground to make up with me. My wife says Skoda will never darken our garage again, have any other members had an experience to match mine?

I am sorry if its seems that I am wingeing on but Skodas always top out polls etc a powerful reason to buy I wrote the first Octavia off as a rogue car thats why I bought 2 others!. Btw the VRS is Black low milage and never thrashed the Fabia does many long trips.

To carry it on got my Fabia back today 03/10/07 more than 2 weeks after they got it into the garage. Well all seemed well after I had returned the mechanics rag back to them from under the bonnet. And cleaned the massive muddy foot print off my drivers mat. But as I was driving to work the engine management light came and I am stuck in London with the prospect on driving out of London in limp mode. Then 70 odd miles back to the dam garage which have made such a horlicks of fixing it.

A couple of members' experiences spring to mind in comparison to yours. A dodgy mass-air flow sensor was probably the cause of your first Octy's fuel consumption problems, although it should be a fairly easy one-off fix (i.e. replace the sensor). As for the spring on the vRS, the car's 5 years old, and the suspension may have had a bit of a beating driving around your 'remote village', so I think that's just One Of Those Things. As for the paint, I've seen the odd Corrida Red VAG car with faded / peeling paint, so if your one's that colour too, I think it's an issue that affects all red VAG cars, I'm afraid. As for your Fabia, 'sticking valve' says exhaust gas recirculation valve to me. I don't know a huge amount about them, but I gather they clag up especially badly if the car's only driven gently for short trips (could be thinking of something else there, though :o ) The occasional high-speed, long distance trip would be the best prevention if that's the case - once you get it back...

Anyway, sorry to hear you've not had the best time with Skoda, although make sure you take all the moans on here with a pinch of salt - for every person who's joined here to complain about something / find out how to fix it, there are probably hundreds who've happily driven their Skodas for years without cause for complaint!

Hope you get things sorted quickly! :)

Hi ,

Welcome to Briskoda, in answer to your question, I would think that if the vast majority of us had such a bad experience with Skoda's we would in all probability, not be even visiting a site such as this.

It would appear that you have been unfortunate in the extreme . And you have certainly got my sympathy mate.

I am no expert, and have just recently bought my first Skoda vRS . Which I am (currently) very happy with.

There are plenty of folks on here who have had skoda's for years, and most swear by them, but as all cars are made by humans, faults do manifest themselves. But you have been very very unlucky indeed.

Bob

Hi, sounds like a massive bout of bad luck, but I know thats not comfort when its all appearing to happen to the same marque. I can't say that my vRS has ever been a problem but I have had some right turkeys in the past, a Vectra I had was a complete nightmare, but my Cavalier was a proper work-horse, things go wrong from time to time with every make and model of car. Anyway, welcome to the site.

Hiya.

Just to expand on the "red paint" comments, I live by the sea, and straight reds on anything (not just VAG) fade very badly here.
