iPOD Connector

Featured Replies

Firstly, apologies if this is a re-post but I could not find the answer anywhere on here.

I have a 2006 Skoda Octavia Ambiente Tdi, it has the standard head unit with the 6 disc CD changer in the boot.

I am fortunate to own a shiny new ipod touch and was wandering how I go about connecting it to the car stereo. (The ipod has the standard ipod connector).

I have noticed that there is an aux input option on the stereo but can not find where anything may be plugged in (if there is one at all.)

Any ideas please?

Have a search of the forum, there's loads of answers on this. Do you have the MP3 compatible radio (i.e. Does it say "Stream" or "Stream MP3" on the front)? Do you have the "jumbo box" (central armrest)? - On newer cars, the AUX socket is inside there.

read this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/when-did-aux-socket-mp3-stream-come/88626/

You say your car is 2006. Mine is also on an 06 plate, but is a 2007 model year - this makes a difference...

If you do, it's possible. I think even with the older radio, you can hijack the CD changer connection to add an AUX input instead, but it will be expensive and more complicated.

It says stream mp3 on the stereo but I do not have a central armrest just a standard one with drinks holder etc...

I am not sure which one it is all I know is that it is the new shape, registered in September 2006

Ok, well having the mp3 stereo is definitely a good start. However, you will need to have an AUX socket fitted (probably into the glove box would be the easiest place).

Have a look at this image of the connector on the back of your radio (you can thank VRStu for making this available!): http://www.octavia-vrs.com/images/images/mfd2/stream_mp3_pinouts.jpg

In the top-right corner, you will see that there are connections for an AUX input. Any decent auto electrician (or yourself, if you're so inclined) should be able to connect a 3.5mm jack socket to these pins, and screw it into the side of your glove box.

excellent, thank you for the advice.

Will give it a whirl. It's a company car so can't take apart too much ;)

to be honest, i dont think anyone would ever notice a small black jack socket at the back of the glove box. my old mondeo had one as standard, and I didn't notice it was there for 18 months :)

the radio can be removed very easily without any real destruction. the fascia panel just unclips (start at the bottom, above the ashtray and lever off gently), and 4 torx screws hold the radio in place.

This is my setup. Genuine VAG ipod connector routed to the cubby hole on the dash top.

Yes, that does make more sense - i forgot about the cubby on top of the dash. the bottom of it is directly accessible when the radio is out, so that would make it really easy. Dont suppose you've got the part number for the official mp3 connector?

id be careful with the ICE-LINK as someone else tried it with the new classic and it didnt work.

my touch works with my head unit but i have an Alpine HU
