Clutch Pedal Problem

Featured Replies

May I say Hi to all the nice folks on these forums, as I make my first post and lose my virginity !!

I like to use the posts as a refence point and look for tips, and if other people have had similar problems or experiences to me. Hence I don't post a lot.

But I had a queer experience with my 52 plate Octavia Ambiente 1.9tdi (72k on clock) on the way to work this morning.

The clutch pedal almost stayed on the floor. It worked but with hardly any travel and it was only just changing gear. I managed to get to work and turned the ignition off and back on and "hey presto" it's back to normal.

I have read elsewhere on the forums about the master cylinder and problems in cold weather, but it was quiete mild this morning. No sign of frost or anything.

Is it worth getting it checked out ? Has anyone else experienced this ?

Cheers

Paul :o

have you had the clutch changed recently? Might be a fault with the master cylinder. I had to have mine replaced after the clutch was changed as sometimes when changing gear the pedal would remain depressed, sticking my foot under it and pulling it back up worked though :-) Then I changed the slave cylinder as I thought it was leaking, but it actually turned out to be the pipe that had a poor coupling joint on the end of it - only shown up by the fact my GF sat with her foot on the clutch while waiting for lights to change or something and it pee'd out a load of fluid!

As far as I am aware it's the original clutch with no prior problems

I'm still thinking the problem's with the hydraulics. When was the brake fluid last changed? As you may or may not know, the clutch hydraulics use the same reservoir (but different master and slave cylinders).
