leaking water from exhaust (newby)

Featured Replies

When I started the engine and looked at the road i saw water coming out of the exhaust... is this normal? Should i take the car to the garage?

I drive a fabia 1.4 16v 2001

Think its normal, no need to worry

Quite common with a lot of cars - also dependent on angle of exhaust, angle you are parked up etc.

Just check and keep an eye on your water levels and that there is no serious emulsion on the inside of the oil filler cap (there may well be some 'mayonnaise' there if you predominantly do short trips). Wipe the inside of the cap clean, replace, check in day or two - if only very slight emulsifying then you should be fine.

Pleasure, 'problem' will be more apparent also as the colder moister weather draws ever nearer - more condensation and rain etc.

And water is a natural byproduct of combustion, So unless you expansion tank and oil filler cap look like they've had a rancid jar of Hellman's dumped in them I shouldn't worry
