Brooklands Mercedes World

Featured Replies

Went there on Friday and boy, is there some money around.

Saw 11 Maybachs (not that they improved for that) and four Mclaren SL's. The place itself is a shrine to Mercs obviously, with some wonderful classic Mercs in the 'showroom' (3 tiers, two coffee shops, merchandise shop, museum etc) but there were two things that stood out that spoiled it.

One, the Brooklands track and original museum seems to have be pushed aside under the onslaught of the technology and pazaz of the new building with some the banked track being used to store new cars and park staff cars, and Two, new Mercs are for spivs.

Yes, they look good external, but inside they are now incredibly bling with bits of chrome and loud trim all over the place. The total lack of restraint shown I guess reflects the push for the American market and maybe they are right - but to me the 75 looked far and away much classier than any of the new Mercs I saw that day, from inside anyway. And my Scout looked in far better taste than almost all of the Mercs in the 'M' part of the display.

Can anyone just turn up and go in?

Yes. It's basically a very flash dealership.

You can also elect to pick your new one up from there.

I have been on the track twice, once for 1/2 hour in a E350 on their handling course and the second time for an hour in a E63 AMG on their performance course.

I can definitely recommend it if a little pricey.

I do believe that they pay quite a donation to Brooklands museum.

Given that Mercedes dominated Brooklands, it's only natural they have such a presence there IMO.
